The gnome desktop login screen appeared and I entered my user name and password. The system accepted this and then presented a black screen followed by a brief glimpse of the text boot screen. This was followed by the gnome desktop login screen being displayed again. This will continue indefinitely. Also, the restart and shutdown buttons to no work. They display and error box when clicked on. The .xsession-errors log contains this message: /libexec/ld_elf.so.1: shared object "livintl.so.9 not found, required by "libgnome-keyring.so.0 >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: Need new package that includes this dependency >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: Responsible-Changed-From-To: freebsd-ports-bugs->gnome Responsible-Changed-By: linimon Responsible-Changed-When: Fri Jun 25 06:49:38 UTC 2010 Responsible-Changed-Why: Fix synopsis and assign. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=148129 From: Paul Lambert To: bug-followup@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Re :ports/148129: Gnome-lite-2.30.1 does not allow login Date: Fri, 25 Jun 2010 19:11:48 -0400 --00504502c10d427c1c0489e2e5e7 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 I deleted this package and reinstalled from ftp.freebsd.ch/pub/FreeBSD/ports/amd64/packages-current/Latest/ with the same results. It needs to be emphasized that the lack of the reboot and shutdown buttons working for this display forces the user to perform a hardware powerdown reset that in most cases results in a dirty file system upon reboot. This exercise takes considerable time and several runs of fsck to get the disk back to a clean status. I do like the fact that I can go into run level 4 and get a sh prompt. Though I must remount root (/) as writeable and then mount /usr I can use vi to edit the rc.conf file and get back to a shell prompt interface after a reboot. This beats needing a CD disk to boot from tremendously. But, run levels 2 and 3 will crash for me. I intend to file a bug on this. --00504502c10d427c1c0489e2e5e7 Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable I deleted this package and reinstalled from ftp.f= reebsd.ch/pub/FreeBSD/ports/amd64/packages-current/Latest/ with the sam= e results.=A0 It needs to be emphasized that the lack of the reboot and shu= tdown buttons working for this display forces the user to perform a hardwar= e powerdown reset that in most cases results in a dirty file system upon re= boot.=A0 This exercise takes considerable time and several runs of fsck to = get the disk back to a clean status.

Then later install gnome-lite package? It sounds like you did. You can't really mix the ports and package, because the package are not always up to date with the ports tree. If not, please follow here link too: http://www.freebsd.org/gnome/docs/bugging.html Cheers, Mezz -- mezz7@cox.net - mezz@FreeBSD.org FreeBSD GNOME Team http://www.FreeBSD.org/gnome/ - gnome@FreeBSD.org State-Changed-From-To: open->closed State-Changed-By: mezz State-Changed-When: Mon Jul 19 22:12:50 UTC 2010 State-Changed-Why: Mix packages and ports don't work very well because the package will be always lag behind ports tree. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=148129 >Unformatted:
