$(cpicName) Help - Folder List Preferences
Folder List preferences define how the list of folders on the left side of the main window behaves. These preferences also control changes in the way the contents of folder are automatically scanned in the background.

To open the Folder List preferences, click on the 'Folder List' link on the left side of the Preferences window.

Folder List Preferences Visual Appearence Options
Bold folder names - checking this will display all the folder names and drive names in the Folder List in a bold font.

Force white background - checking this will set the background color of the Folder List to white, regardless of what color you've chosen in Windows.

Animate folder expansions - check this for animated folder expansions (when you open a folder with sub-folders).

Try to show expanded folders - this option allows to automatically scroll the folder list such that as much of an expanded folder's sub-folders are shown as possible.

Show fixed media volume labels - check to display volume labels of hard drives and other non-removable medias.

Show removable volume labels - when checked the Folder List will display the volume labels of removable disks (floppy disks, CD's, Zip disks, Jaz disks, tape drives, etc.)

Show volume serial numbers - when checked the Folder List will display the volume serial numbers associated with each device.

Select disks when inserted - when a volume is inserted and matches that device with a previous stored Offline Volume, will automatically select the volume in the folder list.

Background Media Identification Options
Floppy insertion - checking this will cause to watch for floppy disks to be inserted. This will cause your floppy drive to run constantly or almost constantly.

Floppy removal - checking this will cause to watch for floppy disks to be removed and react accordingly. This will cause your floppy drive to run constantly or almost constantly.

CD-ROM insertion - checking this will cause to watch for cd-roms to be inserted and react accordingly. Most CD-ROM drives are smart enough to not run unless there's a CD in the drive, but some CD drives actually cause delays which are very annoying.

CD-ROM removal - checking this will cause to watch for CD-ROM's to be removed and react accordingly.

Search Results
Auto select search results - when checked, a completed search will be automatically selected and the results displayed in the File List.

Advanced Folder List Preferences Watching for Changes
normally watches the file system to determine when folders and files are changed. These options control which devices to check and how often they should be checked.

Floppy disks - enables background detection of changes to files on floppy disks.

Fixed disks and networks - enables background detection of changes to files on hard drives and network drives.

CD-ROM discs - enables background detection of changes to files on cd-roms.

Seconds between folder checks - number of seconds to wait before checking for changes to the folder structure on a disk.

Maximum concurrent checks - maximum number of checks to be running at once. This is the maximum number of folders which will be automatically checked if there is more than one folder selected in the folder list. This option has no effect if there is only one folder checked.

Instant Help Status Bar
Show Instant Help on status for floppy drive - when checked, the floppy drive will be scanned when the mouse passes over the drive icon. The status bar will display information about the contents and space on the disk.

Show Instant Help on status for hard drive - when checked, the hard drive will be scanned when the mouse passes over the drive icon. The status bar will display information about the contents and space on the disk.

Show Instant Help on status for removable media drives - when checked, the removable media drive (CD, Zip, tape, etc) will be scanned when the mouse passes over the drive icon. The status bar will display information about the contents and space on the disk.
