This bulletin is only suggested settings which have worked flawlessly for me and two other Sysops. These settings have yielded download speeds well over 1730 cps. I really think you will be surprised what these will do. Just follow these step fully and completely for great results. 1. Download Qmodem. If possible get version 4.1b or later. Configure the program to your computer. Type Alt-N and enter the modem configuration menu. Scan for the modem initialiation string. Replace the existing init string with "ATH0". 2. Go to the options menu in Qmodem. Choose "Toggles". Change XON/XOFF to off. Change CTS Signal to on. Change CTS when writing to on. Change redial sets buad to off. 3. Go to memory under the options menu in Qmodem. Change the download buffer to a minimum of 64K. 4. Save changes in Qmodem and enter the terminal mode. 5. Type ati5. A table of settings will appear. Change all settings to match the one below. (For a setting like X1 that should be changed to X7, type "ATX7&W". &B1 to &B3, "AT&B3&W". S15=000 to S15=255, "ATS15=255&W") Make sure you include the &W, which writes settings to the modem's chips. You may change all in one entry like this: ATX7&B3S15=255&W. B1 F1 M1 X7 BAUD=38400 PARITY=N WORDLEN=8 &A1 &B1 &G0 &H1 &I0 &J0 &K0 &L0 &M4 &N0 &P0 &R2 &S1 &X0 &Y1 S02=255 S03=013 S04=010 S05=008 S06=002 S07=060 S08=002 S09=006 S10=007 S11=070 S12=010 S13=000 S15=008 S19=000 S21=010 S22=017 S23=019 S24=025 S26=000 S27=000 S28=008 S38=000 6. Type ati4. Another table will appear. You may change these settings the same way as above except omit the "&W" suffix. B1 C1 E0 F1 M1 Q0 V1 X7 &A1 &B1 &C1 &D2 &G0 &H1 &I0 &J0 &K0 &L0 &M4 &N0 &P0 &R2 &S1 &X0 &Y1 S00=000 S01=000 S02=255 S03=013 S04=010 S05=008 S06=002 S07=060 S08=002 S09=006 S10=007 S11=070 S12=050 S13=000 S14=001 S15=008 S16=000 S17=000 S18=000 S19=000 S20=000 S21=000 S22=017 S23=019 S24=025 S25=000 S26=000 S27=000 S28=008 S38=000 7. Finally go into Qmodem's Modem settings and change baud rate to 38400. This is ever important. Be sure to save changes to the disk. In all HST numbers in your dialing directory, set baud rate to 38400. 8. Place "verify off" in your autoexec.bat. This completes the process. I feel certain these setting will work. I have seen several files such as this telling modem users to use this setting and that setting. Then the same people write another bulletin a few weeks later contradicting everything in the original file. All information in this bulletin has been tested for over 6 months by three Sysops. My name is Marty McCasland. I am the Sysop of The Five 'n' Dime BBS. If you would like another board to call for enjoyment and test site for these settings, please call me. My number is (501) 364-DATA. [(501) 364-3282] I would be glad to answer any questions about the HST modem. If you disagree with these settings in anyway, please call.
