# 4017- Accessing Corel PHOTO CD Images There are two ways of accessing Corel PHOTO CD images in CorelDRAW 4. Importing a Corel PHOTO CD image directly into a Corel Application The direct import option does not offer the ability to preview all files on the CD-ROM before selecting an image to import. When choosing to import a Kodak PHOTO CD Image,*.PCD, you may encounter the error message "Filter Error - Could not understand the file." The CorelDRAW import filter supports only image PCD files, e.g. IMG0001.PCD. The message will be generated if OVERVIEW.PCD or any file other than an image .PCD is selected. To import a Corel PHOTO CD image, into a Corel application, perform the following steps: 1. Insert the Corel PHOTO CD into the CD-ROM drive. 2. Click File, Import from within CorelDRAW, or File, Open from within Corel PHOTO-PAINT. 3. From the List Files of Type list box, click Kodak Photo CD Image,*.PCD. 4. Click any image in the \PHOTO_CD\IMAGES directory on the CD-ROM, and press OK. 5. From the Import PHOTO CD dialog box, choose a resolution, and press OK. Viewing and Converting Corel PHOTO CD images with CorelMOSAIC OVERVIEW.PCD is found on all Corel PHOTO CDs. This file contains bitmapped thumbnails of the image files, and can be opened in CorelMOSAIC. Once an image is selected, it can be converted to a standard bitmap format. This bitmap can be imported into CorelDRAW, Corel PHOTO-PAINT, or CorelTRACE. To view, select, and convert a Corel PHOTO CD image, perform the following steps: 1. Insert the Corel PHOTO CD, and launch CorelMOSAIC. 2. Click PHOTO CD, View Kodak PHOTO CD. 3. In the Select CD-ROM Drive dialog box, click the CD-ROM drive. 4. Click an image from OVERVIEW.PCD, and click PHOTO CD, Convert Images. 5. Click the drive and directory to store the file in. Click a file format, color depth, and resolution. This file can now be imported, or opened into other Corel applications. Note: Double-clicking a thumbnail will automatically launch and import the image into CorelDRAW or Corel PHOTO-PAINT, depending on how the .PCD files are mapped in the [Extensions] section of WIN.INI. For example: [Extensions] txt=notepad.exe ^.txt pcx=pbrush.exe ^.pcx cdr=c:\corel40\programs\coreldrw.exe ^.cdr PCD=c:\corel40\programs\coreldrw.exe ^.cdr
