# 4025- Installing Additional True Type Fonts

The True Type engine is internal to Windows which means that you do not require a third party
font manager to use True Type fonts in Windows applications. In order for an application to make
use of a particular True Type font, that font must be installed through Windows. This is true for
CorelDRAW  4, and any other Windows  3.1 compatible application that supports True Type
fonts.

There are two files associated with an installed font; the True Type font file (extension .TTF) and
the resource file (extension .FOT).  During the CorelDRAW 4 installation, both files, for each
True Type font will be copied into the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. Windows requires that
the .FOT (resource) files reside in this directory.  Once the fonts are installed, the WIN.INI file
will update the Fonts section. It is important that the .TTF file is not moved or deleted from the
directory it gets installed into.  If you think this may have happened, it is always safe to remove
and reinstall the font through the Windows Control Panel.

TIP:  Installing more than 300 fonts is not recommended.  Doing so, will slow performance in
Windows and/or may cause the WIN.INI file to exceed the 64K limit.  This will cause Windows
to become unstable.  When removing fonts, take care not to remove the system fonts. These are
Windows default fonts.  For a complete list system fonts, refer to the Windows documentation.

A Full or Minimum/Custom installation of CorelDRAW 4 will install 24 fonts to the hard drive.
CD-ROM #1 offers access to additional True Type fonts. There are a variety of ways to install
fonts on your system.  

Installing Fonts From The Windows 3.1 (& 3.11) Control Panel 
1.  Insert the CorelDRAW 4 CD-ROM #1.

2.  Double-click the Main group and double-click the Control Panel icon.

3.  Double-click the Fonts icon.

4.  Click Add, and click the CD-ROM drive from the Drives list box.  Double-click the directory
that contains the font file, i.e. F:\FONTS\TTF\A

5.  From the List of Fonts list box, click the desired font(s).

6.  If you prefer the font(s) to be installed to the hard drive, ensure that the Copy Fonts to
Windows Directory check box is enabled.  If this option is not enabled, the font(s) will be installed
to run off the CD-ROM.  This means that the font will take up less space on your hard drive, but
you must have the CorelDRAW 4 CD-ROM #1 in the drive every time you wish to use the font.

7.  Click OK, and the selected fonts will be installed and will be available in CorelDRAW 4 as well
as other Windows applications.  
8.  Restart Windows.


Installing Fonts From The Windows 95 Control Panel
1.  Insert the CorelDRAW 4 CD-ROM #1.

2.  Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, and double-click the Fonts icon.

3.  Click File, Install New Font.

4.  Click the CD-ROM drive from the Drives list box, and double-click the directory that contains
the font file, i.e. F:\FONTS\TTF\A

5.  From the List of Fonts list box, click the desired font(s).

6.  If you prefer the font(s) to be installed to the hard drive, ensure that the Copy Fonts to
Windows Directory check box is enabled.  If this option is not enabled, the font(s) will be installed
to run off the CD-ROM.  This means that the font will take up less space on your hard drive, but
you must have the CorelDRAW 4 CD-ROM #1 in the drive every time you wish to use the font.

7.  Click OK, and the selected fonts will be installed and will be available in CorelDRAW 4 as well
as other Windows applications.  

8.  Restart Windows.
