# 4028- GPF in CDRGFX40.DLL When Printing The following error message may occur when printing any object from CorelDRAW 4 to a network printer: "Application Error: CorelDRAW caused a General Protection Fault in Module CDRGFX40.DLL" This error message usually occurs when printing from Windows 95, to a network printer with a long path name There are several options available for eliminating General Protection Faults when printing over a network. The following excerpts were obtained from the Microsoft Windows 95 Knowledge Base and are known to resolve this issue. Option 3 is the most common method for correcting this error. OPTION 1: Connect your printer directly to the local system. OPTION 2: Use a printer path with 8 or less characters. For example, the path: \\server123\printer (19 characters) ...works, but the path \\server123\printer1 (20 characters) ...may not. As this would involve possibly changing the name of the server or the printer on the server, it may not be convenient. Also note that spaces in the path name are not supported by CorelDRAW 4. OPTION 3: Redirect a printer port to the network printer path. Under this scenario, the Corel application passes the information to a virtual LPT port, which then passes the information to the network printer. To redirect a printer port, close all applications, and perform the following steps: 1. Click Start, Settings, Printers. 2. Right-click the Network Printer icon, and click Properties. 3. Click the Details tab. The print path should be highlighted in the section titled Print to the Following Port. Press CTRL, C to copy that network path to the Windows clipboard. 4. Click Capture Printer Port. 5. In the Device box, click the printer port you want to redirect. On most machines, LPT3 is a good choice. You can select any port that is not physically present on the computer, and that is not currently being captured. 6. Click in the Path box, and press CTRL, V to paste the printer path. 7. If you want to use this printer each time you start Windows 95, enable the Reconnect At Logon check box, and click OK. If the printer is in use, if the printer or its server are powered off, or if there are any spaces or high-ASCII symbol characters in the path name, you may encounter a communication error. Make sure the printer is turned on and no print jobs are queued, or rename the server or printer if necessary. If the problems persist, contact Microsoft for further assistance. 8. Click the button beside Print to the Following Port to get the list menu, and click the virtual LPT port that was just created. 9. Click OK
