# 6007- Installing True Type Fonts The True Type font engine is an integral component of Windows® 95. Therefore, a third-party font manager is not required to use True Type fonts in any application running in a Windows 95 environment. True Type fonts are installed to and accessed from the Windows/Fonts folder in Windows 95. CorelDRAW™ 6 applications will access True Type fonts at this location. Windows NT® There are two files associated with an installed font: the True Type font file (extension .TTF) and the resource file (extension .FOT). During a CorelDRAW 6 installation, the corresponding .TTF and .FOT files for each True Type font will be copied into the WINDOWS\SYSTEM or the folder. Windows NT® requires that the .FOT files reside in this folder. The .TTF file does not have to be in this folder, but the .FOT file maintains a pointer to the .TTF file for each font. For this reason, it is important that the .TTF file is not moved or deleted from the folder to which it is installed. If this happens, the font may be safely removed and reinstalled through the Windows NT Control Panel. To add third-party or custom True Type fonts, follow the Windows NT True Type font installation procedure. This involves accessing the Fonts dialog box through the Windows NT Control Panel. Once a font has been installed to the Windows NT operating system, it becomes available to all CorelDRAW 6 applications. This option is a good choice when adding one or two fonts. Windows® 95 Windows 95® only requires font files with the True Type file extension (.TTF) for font installation. These files are registered during the installation of CorelDRAW 6 applications. To add third-party or custom True Type fonts, follow the Windows 95 True Type font installation procedure. This involves installing the fonts to the hard drive. Use the Fonts icon in Control Panel to enter the fonts in the Registry, or re-boot the computer. Once a font has been installed to the Windows 95 operating system, it becomes available to all CorelDRAW 6 applications. A Full, Minimum, or Custom installation of the CorelDRAW 6 Suite will install 12 default fonts on the hard drive. The CorelDRAW 6 CD-ROM #1 offers over 1000 additional True Type fonts. The following information lists different methods of installing additional fonts: Installing Fonts With Corel FONT MASTER Corel FONT MASTER is installed on the hard drive during a Full or Custom installation of CorelDRAW 6. Corel FONT MASTER consolidates all font management functions into one easy to use utility. The drag and drop interface makes organizing and managing font libraries a simple task. Section K of the CorelDRAW 6 manual contains operating instructions for this program. The online Help in Corel FONT MASTER also contains detailed instructions about how to take full advantage of this dynamic font utility program. Installing Fonts From The CD-ROM and Corel Setup It is strongly recommended that no more than 400 fonts be installed using this method. To install more than 400 fonts, proceed to the Installing Fonts from the Windows 95 Control Panel section of this document. 1. Insert the CorelDRAW 6 CD-ROM # 1. 2. Click Setup from the AutoRun feature. If AutoRun is not activated, click Start, Run and type X:\SETUP.EXE on the Open command line and press enter. (Where X:\ is the CD-ROM drive letter.) 3. Click Custom Install. 4. Disable all check boxes except Import/Export Filters and Fonts. 5. With the Fonts check box enabled, click Details. Choose to install by font groups or by individual fonts. Font group contents are described in the front of the Clipart Manual. 6. Follow the prompts to finish the installation Installing Fonts From The Windows 95 Control Panel If a large amount of fonts are to be installed (>400), this method is recommended. Note: It is strongly recommended that no more than 500 fonts be installed within Windows 95. Ignoring this warning could affect system performance and stability. 1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel and double-click the Fonts icon. 2. Click File, Install New Font. 3. Click the CD-ROM drive from the Drives list box and double click the folder that contains the desired fonts, i.e. X:\FONTS\TTF\A. 4. Click the fonts to be installed and click OK. 5. Reboot the computer to register the new fonts. Installing Fonts To Be Accessed Directly From The CD ROM Drive: If you have limited disk space this option may be used to access a font without having to install the font file (.TTF) to the hard drive. You will notice a slight decrease in system performance because the CD-ROM drive needs to be accessed to read the fonts into memory as required. The CorelDRAW 6 CD-ROM # 1 must be in the CD-ROM drive to use this method. 1. Follow steps from 1 to 4 as stated in the Installing Fonts From CD ROM and Corel Setup section. 2. With the Fonts box selected, click on Details. The user can choose to install font group(s) or individual fonts. From the same dialog box, select the Leave Fonts On CD option. Alternately (for Windows 95 font installation), 1. Follow steps from 1 to 4 from the previous procedure. 2. Disable the Copy fonts to Font Folder check box in the Add Fonts dialog box before clicking OK. Installing BarCode Fonts BarCode fonts are installed during the custom installation of the BarCode Wizard, and may not be installed independent of this program.
