# 6008- "This is not a Registration File:" Error Message The error message "This is not a registration file" may be generated when installing software or manually registering a software application by double-clicking the *.REG file in the Windows® NT 3.51 or Windows® 95 environment. The software will not be registered by the operating system, and as a result, will not have Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) capability. For Windows 95 users: The error message is generated if Windows 95 is utilizing an older version of REGEDIT.EXE (Size: 32,336 bytes Date: 11/1/93). The correct version of this file (Size: 120,320 bytes Date: 11/07/95) should be present in the Windows 95 folder. If the installed file does not match these specifications, the updated version may be copied from the Windows 95 CD-ROM to the Windows 95 folder on the hard drive. For assistance locating and extracting this file from the Windows 95 CD-ROM, contact Microsoft Technical Support. For Windows NT 3.51 users: The first Windows NT version of REGEDIT.EXE originated with version 3.5, and did not support any of the following Windows 95 registry entries: • REGEDIT4 statements in the *.REG files • The @ symbol or double quotes. For example, REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Corel\CorelDRAW\6.0] @"ConfigDir"="e:\\COREL60\\CONFIG" Windows NT 3.51 modified the REGEDIT program to comply with the Windows 95 version, but did not always replace the REGEDIT.EXE file as required. These modifications were supported by Windows NT, but NOT by Windows 95. The correct REGEDIT.EXE file (Size: 36,896 bytes Date: 5/25/95) should be located in the Windows NT folder. If the file does not match these specifications, proceed with the following: Copy the REGEDIT.EXE file from the Windows NT 3.51 CD-ROM to the Windows NT folder on the hard drive. This will overwrite the older version. For assistance locating and extracting this file from the Windows NT 3.51 CD-ROM, contact Microsoft Technical Support. Note: For users installing CorelDRAW™ 6 on a Windows NT Server, it is necessary to log on as the ADMINISTRATOR in order to successfully enter *.REG files into the registry, even if the User account has administrative rights. To avoid this error message, log on as the ADMINISTRATOR before installing CorelDRAW 6. Note: If you have upgraded from Windows 3.X and installed Windows NT 3.51 to the same folder in a dual boot configuration, then the *.REG files should be manually edited. It is not recommended to copy over the REGEDIT.EXE due to a potential loss of OLE functionality under Windows 3.X.
