# 6010- File Back Up Options There are two methods for creating back up files in CorelDRAW™ 6. Both options - Make Back up on Save and Auto-Back up- may be accessed by clicking Tools, Options, Advanced. These options can be invoked individually or concurrently. Make Backup On Save A backup file (*.BAK) is created if a document is saved more than once during a CorelDRAW work session. A file of the same name as the document is created and placed in the selected folder. All backup files are given the file extension .BAK and remain on the hard drive until manually deleted. To enable the Back up on Save feature, perform the following steps: 1. Click Tools, Options, Advanced. 2. Enable the Make Back up on Save check box. The original file may be restored by changing the .BAK file extension to .CDR. Use Windows Explorer to perform this operation, i.e. SAMPLE.BAK can be renamed to SAMPLE.CDR. Auto Back up This option backs up the file at scheduled intervals which are preset by the CorelDRAW user. The automatic timer is activated the instant document contents change, and a file with the extension .ABK is created after the selected time has expired. Auto Back up files are removed from the hard drive when CorelDRAW is exited or when the document is saved. The auto back up remains on the hard drive if the application aborts illegally. You can restore the original file by changing the .ABK file extension to .CDR. Use Windows Explorer to perform this operation, i.e. SAMPLE.BAK can be renamed to SAMPLE.CDR. To enable the Auto Back up feature, perform the following steps: 1. Click Tools, Options, Advanced. 3. Enable the Auto Back up check box. 4. Enter an interval time in the number list box (from 1 to 120 minutes). 5. Click Select Directory. 6. Choose a location where back up files will be stored. Note: It is possible to disable both back up features, but it is not recommended. Avoid the irretrievable loss of valuable work by using at least one of these back up features during each CorelDRAW work session.
