# 6012- CorelDRAW™ 6 FAQs - Volume 2 The following document contains frequently asked questions about CorelDRAW™ 6. Note: "FIXED" indicates that Corel has identified and corrected these issues in the revision B 169 maintenance release of CorelDRAW 6. Other issues do not originate with the Corel software, and therefore workarounds are provided to overcome difficulties which may arise from normal use of this application. File I/O: Q Why can't I export Encapsulated Postscript (EPS) files correctly when the Selected Objects Only check box is enabled? Why can't I export multi-page documents? A This issue has been addressed and corrected with a self-extracting patch file called EPSFLT.EXE. This file is available from the BBS, World Wide Web site, and from MSN in the file download section. Q Why can't a file that has been opened in CorelDRAW 6 and saved as a CorelDRAW 5 file, be opened or saved in CorelDRAW again? A This occurs because of the styles used in the CorelDRAW 6 CORELDRW.CDT file. Before saving as a CorelDRAW 5 file, perform the following steps: 1. Open the Styles Manager, and delete all six bullet styles. 2. Click Tools, Options, Advanced, and disable the Enable Multitasking check box. 3. Click File, Save As. Disable the Save Presentation Exchange Data check box. 4. Continue saving the file as normal. FIXED Q Why am I experiencing random Invalid Page Faults (IPFs), especially when using Paragraph text, or saving? A Click Tools, Options, Advanced. Disable the Enable Multitasking check box. This can be enabled again if you are printing large jobs. If this does not correct the issue, refer to Fax on Demand document #2100 for information about diagnosing IPF errors. Q Why isn't the TIF image header of an EPS file shown in non-Corel applications? A To workaround this issue, choose black and white or grayscale as the TIF image header type. FIXED. Q Why isn't the Windows MetaFile (WMF) image header of an EPS file shown in non-Corel applications? A The EPS export filter uses whatever setting is current for the WMF export filter when constructing the WMF image header. Therefore, before exporting an EPS file with a WMF image header, disable the Placeable Header check box in the export dialog box and exit CorelDRAW to make sure the change is written to the CORELDRW.INI file. FIXED. Q Why do I have issues working with CorelDRAW 5 documents in CorelDRAW 6? A All files from previous versions need to be converted to 32-bit format when they are first opened in CorelDRAW 6. Therefore, file sizes may double and result in slower opening times. Other issues related to opening CorelDRAW 5 files in CorelDRAW 6 have been addressed in revision B 169. This includes: • The inability to open a file saved in CorelDRAW 6 as a CorelDRAW 5 file. • The inability to open files that contain bitmaps and are saved as CorelDRAW 5 files. • Issues reopening files in CorelDRAW 6. • Support for extended characters in a file name. • Unnecessary prompts to save the file when no changes had been made. • Failure of .ABK backup activation during a new session CorelDRAW. • The retention of previously used paths for .CDT and .CDR files when opening and Saving. FIXED. Q Why is the text incorrectly justified when opening a .CMX document that was created in CorelDRAW 5 in CorelDRAW 6? A CorelDRAW 5 files saved with the Preview Selected Only check box enabled would occasionally open in CorelDRAW 6 with the selected only preview activated. This has been addressed and is now disabled for all file open operations . FIXED. Q Why can't I open IBM .PIF files? A Windows® 95 has reserved the .PIF extension for the operating system. Rename any IBM PIF file extension from .PIF to .PF for use with the CorelDRAW suite of applications. Q Why are Corel PHOTO-PAINT™ files incomplete when imported into CorelDRAW 6? A Importing *.CPT files, that include objects is not possible. This feature is reserved for use within Corel PHOTO-PAINT only. The background of the file will import, but the object will not. To workaround this issue, open these files in Corel PHOTO-PAINT and combine the objects with the background, or save them to another file format so that the combine operation is performed automatically. Fonts: Q Why is only every other letter appearing when typing text in CorelDRAW? A This will be experienced with Type 1 fonts installed through an older versions of Adobe Type Manager® (ATM). Make sure that the version of ATM is 3.01 or 3.02, or contact Adobe for an upgrade. Q Why am I getting the error "No Font List - CorelDRAW Not Installed Properly", followed by "Unexpected Condition #5000 - DRAW - 1291" when opening CorelDRAW? A The Windows 95 registry key for font storage is limited to 64KB. This error message will be generated by a corrupt system font file if too many (500+) fonts have been installed through the OEM installation process. When installing fonts during the Corel installation process, the entire path of the font is added to the registry, which quickly fills the key to capacity. For information on resolving this error, refer to Fax on Demand document #6014. Q Can I open documents containing WFN fonts in CorelDRAW 6? A WFN fonts are no longer supported by CorelDRAW 6. When opening files that contain WFN fonts under CorelDRAW 6, the fonts will be mapped to the True Type or Type 1 equivalent, first by name, then by the Panose font matching. Text: Q Why does an IPF error occur when I save a file with paragraph text, change the text to italics and save it again? A This will occur if the Enable Multitasking check box is enabled. This option is found by clicking Tools, Options, Advanced. FIXED. Q How can I enter non-integer font sizes using the Text RollUp in CorelDRAW? A Non-integer font sizes must be entered by clicking Text, Character. FIXED. Q Why is the text justification different when I open a CorelDRAW 5 document in CorelDRAW 6? A Justified text spacing will be altered when a CorelDRAW 5 file is opened in CorelDRAW 6. This is due to the new justification controls. To keep spacing consistent with previous versions, change the Maximum Word Spacing and Minimum Word Spacing to 100% and Maximum Character Spacing to 0% in the Paragraph, Spacing dialog box. This is not considered an issue as it is an improvement in justified spacing control. Q Why doesn't enveloped paragraph text created in CorelDRAW 5 open correctly in CorelDRAW 6? A The text flow will differ from previous versions. This is due to text flow improvements made in CorelDRAW 6. Q Why do CorelDRAW 5 documents opened in CorelDRAW 6 have incorrect line spacing? A Previous version files which contain text that has been saved with line spacing set to points will open with inflated values in CorelDRAW 6. The files open with line spacing at 100% of the character height. To workaround this issue, adjust the line spacing. Q Why is an IPF error generated when using the Wrap Paragraph Text attribute from the Spiral Tool properties with a paragraph text block? A This will occur if the curve is not closed before applying the Wrap Paragraph Text attribute. FIXED User Interface: Q Why won't the Full Screen Preview work consistently in CorelDRAW? A Some files may have been saved with a Selected Only preview enabled. Disable this option by checking View, Preview, Selected Only. FIXED. Option will no default to off. Q Why doesn't the Status Bar automatically reflect the increase or decrease measurement when clicking and dragging to resize an object, as it did in CorelDRAW 5? A To workaround this issue, use the Transform RollUp to set a specific object size. FIXED. Q Why doesn't the contour effect always work with text objects? A The contour effect can be applied to simple Artistic text strings only. FIXED. Q Why does skewed text sometimes display incorrectly? A This will occur at high zoom levels with skewed text. FIXED. Q Why don't the tabs in the Guideline Setup Box correspond to the functions they perform? A In the Guideline Setup dialog box, the three tabs that appear along the top should read Horizontal, Vertical, and Slanted. FIXED. Q Why can't I find the TILES on CD-ROM #2 as documented in the Libraries Catalog's Table of Contents ? A This is a misprint, the entire collection of TILES can be found on CD-ROM #1. Q Why am I having difficulty controlling my guidelines? A In revision B 169, numerous fixes were undertaken to optimize and increase the functionality of Guidelines, including: • Redraws generated following the move of a guideline were eliminated. • Moving of slanted guidelines by grabbing with the cursor was eliminated. • Snapping to slanted guidelines was implemented. • The Status bar now reflects guideline moves. • Issues moving horizontal guidelines that were related to some video cards have been resolved. • Double-clicked guidelines are now properly highlighted in the dialog box. • Guidelines now snap to the grid properly. If you are still having difficulty, double-click on the guideline open the Edit dialog box. Move or delete the line manually. Refer to Fax on Demand document #6001 to determine whether or not you are loading 16-bit mouse drivers into the configuration files. This is known to cause problems in the 32-bit Windows 95 environment. Effects: Q Why does the Fit Text to Path RollUp display for a second then disappear? A To resolve this, close CorelDRAW. Rename the CDRROLS.CFG file from the COREL/DRAW folder to CDRROLS.OLD. This will reset the CorelDRAW RollUps. To avoid this, do not use the autoclose (icon of a tack that is in the up position) button in the RollUp. FIXED. Q Why can't I edit a PowerClip that resides on any page besides page 1? A To resolve this, move the PowerClip to page 1. Do this by dragging it to the area outside of the page, and moving it onto page 1. Edit the PowerClip, and drag it back outside the page and then back to the original page. FIXED. Q Is it possible to install the CorelDRAW 5 menus in CorelDRAW 6? A To change the menu structure in CorelDRAW 6 to CorelDRAW 5, rename the CDRMENU.CD5 to CDRMENU.CFG. This file is located in the COREL\DRAW folder. Q What changes have been made to revision B 169 regarding the Attribute tools? A The following changes have been made to the Attribute tools: • The Update From button has been added in the Color RollUp. • All Special Fill dialogs now use the Quick Picker (Update From). • It is now possible to delete a Full Color Bitmap Pattern via the Property Sheets. • Arrowheads can be edited more than once. • The last used Texture and Library is now retained in the CORELDRW.INI. • All imported black and white bitmaps will accept outline or fill assignments. FIXED. Q How can I set up the Zoom tool the way it was in CorelDRAW 5? A When you launch CorelDRAW 6, you will notice that a Zoom tool tear off is available on the main drawing area. Zoom tool behavior has changed significantly in CorelDRAW 6. The default Zoom tool available from the toolbox is now a persistent Zoom, i.e. you will not automatically revert to the Pick tool following the Zoom action you have selected. Additionally, clicking the Panning tool from this fly out is a persistent tool. The traditional Zoom tools are available to you, and are also available as separate Property switches for the Zoom tools in general. To return to the Zoom tools that were used in CorelDRAW 5, click the new Zoom tool, and right-click. Click Properties. Enable the Traditional check box, and click OK. Intellitype Keyboard: Q Is CorelDRAW compatible with the Microsoft® Intellitype Keyboard? A Issues have been reported with the driver for this keyboard (firmware version 2) and POINTER32. When the Snap To feature has been activated for these drivers in the Control Panel, the corresponding Snap To behavior within CorelDRAW will be unpredictable. To work around this, disable the hardware or software Snap To feature. FIXED
