# 6022- Alternative Installations Installing CorelDRAW™ 6 Without 32-bit Protected Mode CD-ROM Device Drivers For many CD-ROM devices operating in Windows® 95, 32-bit protected mode device drivers are not available. However, a partial or complete installation of the CorelDRAW 6™ Suite may be accomplished using CD-ROMs driven by 16-bit real mode device drivers. For Corel users who are unable to configure their computers following the instructions contained in Fax on Demand document #6002, "File = Common List Error Messages", the CorelDRAW 6 Suite may be installed using one of the following methods. Manual Installation Create a folder on the hard drive called C:\COREL. The drive and folder must be specified to conform to the default parameters of a CorelDRAW 6 installation. Copy the following folders and their contents from CD-ROM #1 to C:\COREL. COLOR PHOTOPNT CONFIG PLUGINS CUSTOM PROGRAMS FILTERS SYMBOLS* DRAW *create an empty folder in C:\COREL. Remove the Read-Only attributes from the Corel folder and subfolders. To do this, perform the following steps: 1. Click Start, Programs, MS-DOS Prompt. 2. Type CD Corel and press ENTER. 3. Type ATTRIB -R *.* /S and press enter. 4. Type EXIT and press ENTER. Click Start, Programs, Windows Explorer. Double-click the CORELAPP.REG located in the C:\COREL\CONFIG\ folder. This will register the applications in Windows 95. A Typical installation, as indicated above, would include CorelDRAW and Corel PHOTO-PAINT™. This requires approximately 140 MB of free hard drive space. To include other components, such as Corel MOTION 3D, Corel PRESENTS™ Corel FONT MASTER, and Corel MULTIMEDIA MANAGER™, copy the corresponding folders from CD-ROM #1, to the C:\COREL folder. A Full installation will require approximately 185 MB of free hard drive space. This option may not be used to install CorelDREAM 3D because the DREAM3D.INI file must be generated during a normal setup. Note: Fonts and Symbols may be installed through the Control Panel, Fonts icon. Refer to Fax on Demand document #6007 for information about installing additional True Type fonts. To Create a Start Menu Programs Folder To create a Programs Folder, click Start, Settings, Taskbar. Click Start Menu Programs, and click Add. Click Browse and locate the .EXE files. These files are found in the C:\COREL\ PROGRAMS\ folder. Click Next, and click New Folder. Type Corel Graphics as the name for the new programs folder. Repeat the steps until all .EXE files have been added. Batch File Installation from the MS-DOS Prompt This is an example of a Batch File installation. Insert appropriate lines for additional CorelDRAW 6 modules if they are to be included in the installation. Add the /S switch for XCOPY commands where subfolders are included in the copy process. For the example, for the file INSTALL6.BAT, enter INSTALL6 [(CD-ROM drive letter):] at the DOS Prompt. i.e.: INSTALL6 D: echo off rem INSTALL6.BAT Install Corel 6.0 If "%1"=="" goto err1 md c:\corel md c:\corel\color xcopy %1% \color c:\corel\color md c:\corel\config xcopy %1%\config c:\corel\config md c:\corel\custom xcopy %1%\custom c:\corel\custom /s md c:\corel\filters xcopy %1%\filters c:\corel\filters md c:\corel\draw xcopy %1%\draw c:\corel\draw /s md c:\corel\photopnt xcopy %1%\photopnt c:\corel\photopnt /s md c:\corel\plugins xcopy %1%\plugins c:\corel\plugins md c:\corel\programs xcopy %1%\programs c:\corel\programs /s md c:\corel\symbols start c:\corel\config\corelapp.reg :exit :err1 echo Error >> Include CD-ROM drive letter on command line Notes: • The INSTALL6.BAT batch file is provided for demonstration purposes only. Refer to Fax on Demand document #6007 for information about installing additional True Type fonts. • The Corel Uninstaller will not be available to the user after a Manual or Batch File installation. Direct Cable Connection Installation The Direct Cable Connection feature in Windows 95 allows a direct parallel cable connection between two computers. It may be used to run the Corel setup program from a Client or Guest computer by mapping to the CD-ROM device of a Server or Host computer. Obtain a Bi-Directional Parallel File Transfer cable with a DB25 male connection at each end, and plug it into the LPT port on each computer. This item is readily available at software and hardware retailers. The Dial-Up Networking and Direct Cable Connection components of Windows 95 must be installed on both computers. To do this, click Start, Settings, Control Panel. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon and click on Windows Setup. Double-click on Communications, and choose these Windows components. The client computer, which will be receiving the CorelDRAW application, should be set up as the Guest computer. The server computer will be used to install the CorelDRAW application on the Guest computer, and should be set up as the Host computer. Perform the following steps on both computers. From the Control Panel, double-click the Network Neighborhood Icon and click Configuration. Install these Network options: Client for Microsoft Networks Properties-Default Dial-Up Networking Properties-Enhanced mode IPX/SPX-Compatible Protocol Properties - NetBIOS and all Bindings enabled NETBIOS Support for IPX/SPX-Compatible Protocol Properties - Click both Bindings selections File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks Properties - Automatic Click Identification, and assign the name HOST1 to the host computer, and GUEST1 to the guest computer. Assign the same Workgroup name to both computers. Click Configuration, and enable the File and Print Sharing check box. Click the I Want to be Able to Give Others Access to my Files button. Click Access Control, and use the default Share-level Access Control. Double-click the My Computer icon on the Host Computer, right-click the CD-ROM drive, and click Sharing, Sharing. For the Access Type, click the Full button. Perform the same on the other drives on the host computer if you wish to transfer data from those locations. Click Start, Programs, Accessories, Direct Cable Connection on the Host computer, and use the Wizard to set up the computer as Host on the LPT 1 port. Click the Finish button. Perform the same on the Guest computer. A Status dialog box will appear on the Host computer indicating that it is waiting for a signal from a Guest computer, or that it is connected via parallel cable on LPT 1. The same dialog box will appear on the screen of the Guest computer with an additional button entitled View Host. Click View Host to open a dialog box displaying the shared folders on the Host computer. Insert the CD-ROM #1 into the CD-ROM drive of the Host computer, and close the AutoRun screen if it appears. Open the CD-ROM folder in the Shared folder window and double-click SETUP.EXE to begin the CorelDRAW 6 setup. Specify the drive and folder you want Corel to be installed to on the Guest computer when prompted, and allow the installation to proceed normally. Note: These instructions are provided for demonstration purposes only. Corel technical support cannot assist you with configuring your computer, and assumes no responsibility for the Windows setup. If you require further assistance with Direct Cable Connection, contact Microsoft technical support or your manufacturer.
