# 6024- Windows NT® Scanner Installation This document describes specific procedures for Windows NT® scanner installation, and should be used in conjunction with Fax on Demand document #6016 for a general understanding of TWAIN-compliant scanning. Scanning directly into CorelDRAW™ 6 with Windows NT is now supported with the release of revision B 169. Click Help, About Corel PHOTO-PAINT to determine which version of CorelDRAW 6 is installed on the computer. If the version number does not read 6.00.169, contact Corel Customer Service for information about obtaining the current version. It is also necessary to have the correct version of Windows NT installed on the computer. Confirm that you are using Windows 3.51, Build 1057 or higher, with Microsoft Service Pak 2. To confirm this, click Help, About Windows NT in the Program Manager. The Corel image source software is available for users of supported scanners as detailed in Fax on Demand #6016. The scanner must communicate with the computer through a 32-bit SCSI or host adapter. To install the Corel image source for TWAIN-compliant scanning, run the install program from CD-ROM #1. Click a Custom install when prompted, and disable all check boxes including the scanners module, except the Import/Export filters and the Scanner source. Click Scanners, and click Details. This will open a dialog box with a selection of scanner driver modules. Click the module that corresponds to your scanner, and click Continue. Finish the installation normally. Windows NT is not shipped with its own ASPI manager, however, this application layer is loaded by the our setup routine. CorelDRAW 6 revision B169 will recognize the Windows NT operating system without user intervention, and install the following files to these locations: Note: The installation of the HP® driver set is shown. Appropriate driver sets will be installed according to the scanner selected during setup, and substituted in place of the HP*.* files in this sample. Re-boot the computer with the scanner turned on. From Corel PHOTO-PAINT or Corel OCR-TRACE™ click File, Acquire Image, Select Source. Confirm that the correct Corel image source has been installed for the scanner, then click it. Click File, Acquire Image, Acquire, and the Corel Image Source will appear. Use it to scan into the CorelDRAW 6 applications. Scanning With a 16-bit SCSI or Adapter If you are using a 16-bit scanner driver, the GUI interface may not be visible from the Corel application. This may be overcome by installing the Kodak Photo CD image source during the setup routine. The Kodak Photo CD image source will appear as an option under File, Acquire Image, Select Source, but is used only to provide the necessary software modules for scanning with 16-bit device drivers. It should not be selected as an image source. Use the install instructions supplied with the OEM scanner software to load that 16-bit driver into the operating system. Reboot the computer with the scanner turned on. Click File, Acquire Image, Select Source, and click the OEM scanner driver. Click File, Acquire Image, Acquire. The 16-bit scanner interface should be displayed, and used to scan the image into the Corel application.
