# 6028- CorelDRAW™ 6 Printing FAQs The following document contains frequently asked printing questions about CorelDRAW™ 6 printing issues. Note: "FIXED" indicates that Corel has identified and corrected these issues in the release of revision B 169 of CorelDRAW 6. Other issues do not originate with your Corel software, and therefore workarounds are provided to overcome difficulties which may arise from normal use of this application . General Q What printing issues were addressed with the release of revision B 169? A The following issues, were addressed: • *Spot separations warnings and Special settings to control threshold. • Fountain steps holding across print jobs. • Invalid Page Fault (IPF) when toggling pages in Print Preview. • Now able to output blank pages using Current Page. • Warning for fountain fill banding inside vector fills have been disabled. • IPF no longer generated when printing more pages than the document contains. • Hairline outlines on plotters no longer output as thicker polycurves. • The Copies option has been optimized for functionality. • Non-PostScript copies no longer reset following each job. • 2-sided printing will now stop at 50% to allow for paper flip. * New feature FIXED Q Why am I getting the error "Print Overrun" when I try to send a print job? A This message is most often generated on computers that have HP® LaserJet printers attached. To resolve this, click Start, Settings, Printers. Click the printer icon and click File, Properties, Graphics. Enable the Use Raster Graphics check box. Click the Details tab, and click Spool Settings. Change the Spool Data Format to RAW. Q Why is my printer printing slowly, and sometimes generating the error "Windows could not write to the printer spool file"? A To resolve this, try one of the following suggestions: • Verify that the system has adequate space for temporary files and has valid temp pointers. Refer to Fax on Demand document #2100 for more information. • Click File, Print, Options, Options, Special Settings. Click Driver Banding and click Send Bands to Driver. • Click File, Print, Options, Options, Special Settings. Click Bitmap Printing and click Output Entire Bitmap. Q I am trying to print white text on a black background and the white text will not print. What can I do to correct this? A Apply a thin white outline to the text, or click the text with the Pick tool and click Arrange, Convert to Curves. Q Why do I receive "Out of Memory " errors when printing from Corel applications? A This condition is directly related to the amount of system resources available at the time the print job is sent. It is essential to have adequate space on the hard drive for virtual memory expansion and the creation of temporary files. Refer to Fax on Demand document #2100 for more information. Q Why do my separations include CMYK values as well as Pantone® spot colors, when I am trying to print an image that only contains Pantone spot colors? A This will occur because a CMYK object is contained somewhere in the file. Often, the objects are filled with spot colors, but the object outlines have been assigned a CMYK color. Q Why don't text objects, created with Type 1 fonts, print out correctly when they have been rotated on the page? A To resolve this, apply a thin white outline to the text, or click the text with the Pick tool and click Arrange, Convert to Curves. Q Why does the image appear as a black box, when I try to preview Duotone separations from within the Preview window of the Print Option dialog box? A This is a limitation of the software. Proceed with the printing process - the print job will be completed successfully. Remember, the printed job will look pixilated - almost like a header. This is because a composite Duotone will output as a low resolution image. In order to see the high resolution information, you must print the Duotone in separations. Q Why is a gray or black box printed when printing bitmaps to my HP printer? A This is an issue for some HP printers. Find the driver initialization file on the hard drive (HP.INI, DESKJET.INI), and open it in Notepad. Look for a line which reads 0JumboTechnology=0100. Alter the line to read 0JumboTechnology=0000. Save and close the file. Q Why is an IPF error generated when I try to print color separations on my printer? A Check the system date. This is done by checking the date and time settings on the Windows 95 clock. If the current year is set incorrectly, i.e. 2096, change it back to the correct setting. Q What is the maximum page size I can print from CorelDRAW to the HP DesignJet Series printers? A CorelDRAW 6 is now capable of supporting page sizes to a maximum of 150 feet by 150 feet. Due to a limitation in the HP DesignJet 650C Series printer drivers, the maximum attainable page size is approximately 55 by 55 inches. Larger page sizes may be attainable if the resolution in the driver is lowered. This limitation also applies to the HP 750C plotter, and 16-bit plotter drivers under Windows 95. Q Why doesn't the Color Wizard produce good results when my HP 800 Series printer is included in the Color Profile.? A Certain models of HP 500, 800, and 1200 Series printers are shipped with color management built into the printer driver that cannot be disabled. It is not possible, nor is it desirable to apply an additional color management system to the one which is already in place. Consult the owner's manual or contact HP for specific details about the printer color management system. Q Why does my text appear to be broken up when I try to print it? A This is related to the coding in the printer driver. Apply a thin outline, e.g. 0.00005, to the text. Q Why won't my HP 550C printer print graphics in Windows 95. It starts to print on the right hand side of the page, but only half the graphic is printed, and it does not print in color. A If you installed Window 95 over Windows 3.1, you must remove every file that has a reference to HP. Delete the printer driver, and delete anything that starts with HP from the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder. Remove all references to HP in the WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI files. In the WIN.INI, Modify LPT1:= to read LPT1:=LPT1.DOS. Click, Start, Shutdown, Shut down the Computer. Turn the power off, and restart Windows Reinstall the printer driver from the Windows 95 CD-ROM. For additional information on this procedure, contact HP. Q When I change the Frequency & Angle setting for a printer, by clicking File, Print, Options, Separations, Advanced, and save these setting under a named style, the setting reverts to the default settings the next time I invoke that printing style. Is this an oversight or an issue? A This is as designed. The default settings for the frequency and angle of halftone printing are proven industry standards. It is assumed that these settings would be changed only under special circumstances. Q My Encad Novajet printer will not output a page longer than 55". Does this restriction originate within CorelDRAW 6? A Encad has released a Windows 95 compatible driver. It is available for FTP download from their World Wide Web site at HTTP://WWW.ENCAD.COM. Download the file WIN95V11.EXE. Please note that one of the page size options under the Paper Tab is Corel. This is a 30" by 30" page size, and is relevant to the CorelDRAW 5 Suite only. CorelDRAW 6 supports page sizes up to 150' by 150'. Q Why am I having difficulty printing 2 color bitmap fills to a non-PostScript printer? A Try clicking, File, Print, Options, Options, Special Settings. Click Bitmap Printing, and click Output Entire Bitmap.
