The following document contains frequently asked questions and answers for CorelDRAW 7. INSTALLATION ISSUES: Q When I installed CorelDRAW 7, CD-ROM #1 was the only CD-ROM required. How do I install CD-ROM #2, and #3? A CD-ROM #2, and #3 do not install to the computer. They contain Clipart, photos, sample files, brushes, etc, and are used in conjunction with the application modules. Q I just installed CorelDRAW 7 on Microsoft Windows NT 3.51, and now I am receiving Invalid Page Faults and Procedure Entry Point errors opening my programs. How can I resolve this? A CorelDRAW 7 was designed and tested to run on either Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0. No other operating systems are currently supported. Q I just finished the installation of CorelDRAW 7 on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0. The installation went fine but when I try to launch any Corel 7 applications I get the following error:. {Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Corel\CORELDRAW\70" Value: "ConfigDIR" not found in the Registry.} Should I reinstall it? A It isn't necessary to reinstall the CorelDRAW 7 Suite perform the following steps: 1. Close all running applications, and click Start, Programs, Windows Explorer. 2. Double-click the COREL70 folder. The default folder for CorelDRAW 7 is C:\Corel\ DRAW70 3. Press F3. A Find Files dialog box will open. 4. Type *.REG in the Named field, and click Find Now. 5. Double-click the first file and click OK to the message, "The information in {Path} has been successfully entered into the Registry." 6. Repeat step 5 for all remaining *.REG files. 7. Close the Windows Explorer and launch the applications. Q I just purchased the CorelDRAW 7 Suite and I installed it as an upgrade to the folder of my previous version of CorelDRAW. Now when I try to launch my applications I get error messages and some programs just freeze when opening. How can I resolve this? A It is recommended that CorelDRAW 7 not be installed into the same location as any previous version of CorelDRAW. Even if the package that was purchased is an upgrade version, CorelDRAW 7 should be installed to a separate folder, for example, a DRAW70 folder. Using the CorelDRAW 7 Uninstaller program, follow the instructions for uninstalling CorelDRAW 7 completely from the computer. Next, remove the previous version of CorelDRAW from your system. If you installed this program over CorelDRAW 3, refer to Fax on Demand document #2011 for proper uninstallation instructions. For CorelDRAW 4, refer to #4027, for CorelDRAW 5, refer to #5017, and if you installed over CorelDRAW 6 you can use the Uninstaller. After you have completely removed both programs, install CorelDRAW 7 to a separate folder. Q Near the end of the CorelDRAW 7 installation, I get a "REGSVR32" error followed by a series of Invalid Page Faults (IPFs). Is there a way to fix this? A If you receive this error, manually uninstall CorelDRAW 7 and then reinstall the application. Refer to Fax on Demand document #3417 for instructions on manually uninstalling. Perform a Custom installation, and do not install the following components: CorelDRAW Tutor, Corel PHOTO-PAINT Tutors, CorelsCAN , Corel TEXTURE , and Corel Bar Code Wizard. This issue has been addressed and corrected in build 467 of CorelDRAW 7. Contact Customer Service for information about obtaining this update. ERROR MESSAGES: Q When I try to open certain CorelDRAW files, I get the following error message: "File (drive LETTER:\FILENAME.CDR) contains an Invalid Outline ID or Invalid Fill ID." or "This file contains and invalid or corrupted object". What am I doing wrong? A This issue has been addressed with the D7373.EXE patch. This patch is available on our Website, BBS, FTP, and CompuServe. This has also been addressed and corrected in build 467 of CorelDRAW 7. Contact Customer Service for information about obtaining this update. Q I just finished installing CorelDRAW 7 using the Compact install option. When I try to launch Corel TUTOR I get a message that says "Out of Memory" or "CorelDRAW cannot find file DRWTUTOR.EXE". How should I resolve this? A Repeat the installation using the Custom install option. Install the tutors only. The Tutors are located in the CorelDRAW and Corel PHOTO-PAINT sections of the Custom Install dialog box. MISCELLANEOUS ISSUES: Q I created an object in CorelDRAW 7 and I assigned it an outline but no fill. Now, when I try to click in the center of the object, the whole object gets selected. How can I change this? A In CorelDRAW 7, click Tools, Option, Toolbox, Pick Tool and disable the Treat all Objects as Filled check box. Q Why doesn't Microsoft Exchange work after installing CorelDRAW 7? A CorelDRAW 7 will write an older version of MAPI32.DLL overtop of the newer version used by Microsoft Exchange - as a result, Microsoft Exchange will not work and neither will Microsoft Exchange Server. In most cases, reinstalling MS Exchange will resolve this issue. If after reinstalling, this issue still persists, try performing the following operation if you are running Windows 95: 1. Reboot the system, press F8when you see the typed message "Starting Windows 95..." 2. Click Command Prompt Only from the StartUp Menu, and press enter. 3. At the command prompt, type CD WINDOWS/SYSTEM. 4. Type REN MAPI32.DLL MAPI32.XXX, and press enter. 5. Reboot the computer. 6. Click Start, Programs, MS-DOS Prompt. 7. Type CD WINDOWS/SYSTEM. 8. Type the following command: Extract /A /E X:\WIN95\WIN95_02.CAB MAPI32.DLL Where X is the CD-ROM or disk drive letter. 9. Reboot the computer. If you are running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, perform the following: 1. Click Start, Programs, MS-DOS Prompt. 2. Type CD WINNT/SYSTEM32. 3. Type: REN MAPI32.DLL MAPI32.XXX 4. expand X:\I386\MAPI32.DL_ MAPI32.DLL X: being the CD-ROM drive: CLIPART & TEMPLATES: Q The Clipart manual makes mention of some Photo Edges which are supposed to be on CD- ROM #2 but I can't find them anywhere. Where are they located? A The Photo Edges are actually on CD-ROM #1 in the PHOT_EDG folder. These are in the AFX file format and are used only in Corel PHOTO-PAINT's Photo/Graphic Edges effect. Printing, Scanning & Color Management Q I am printing to a Non-PostScript HP printer and sometimes if I try to print just a single character it will not appear on the outputted page. What should I do? A There are two possible workarounds for this issue. First, convert the Text to curves before printing. Second, change the special settings for Text Output Method to Text as Graphics. Refer to Fax on Demand document #3424 for more specific information. Q When I access the Corel COLOR MANAGER, and try to set up my devices, I only have four choices. Where are all of my color profiles? A If you did a Compact, or Typical installation - these profiles are not installed. To install them, copy the contents of the COLOR folder from the CorelDRAW 7 CD-ROM #1 to the COREL\DRAW70\COLOR folder on the hard drive. Note: Folder name may vary depending on user customization. Q My colors look great on screen but when I print my image they look washed out. How can I make my printer simulate what is on screen? A Click View, Color Correction, Accurate. Make sure Simulate Printer is enabled. This will show you what your printer is capable of outputting. For even more accurate results, color calibrate your system using the Corel COLOR MANAGER. Refer Fax on Demand document #3414 for more information.
