# 3467- Using Corel® MEDIA FOLDERS™ This document is a brief introduction describing the function of Corel® MEDIA FOLDERS™. What Is Corel® MEDIA FOLDERS? Corel MEDIA FOLDERS 8 is a software utility that organizes multimedia files in the Windows Explorer environment. MEDIA FOLDERS is not a stand-alone application – it becomes part of the regular Windows® 95 or Windows NT® 4.0 interface. Corel MEDIA FOLDERS offers several options for viewing files. When a MEDIA FOLDER is opened, files can be viewed in its subfolders as thumbnails, large or small icons, or as a list of filenames. Files can be sorted by any of the properties listed in the View menu. If the files are displayed as icons, they can be rearranged within the subfolders by clicking and dragging. In addition, Corel MEDIA FOLDER allows: - browsing through icons and thumbnails in the Application Window - adding keywords and notes to files - finding multimedia files using the built-in search engine - opening files by dragging them to an Application Window - printing files directly from Corel MEDIA FOLDER folders Note: To access the clipart folder on CD #2 from Windows NT 4.0, Corel MEDIA FOLDERS 8 must be installed, or the Standard Installation of Internet Explorer 4.0. Where Are The MEDIA FOLDERS? MEDIA FOLDER folders do not exist on the hard drive until they are created. Creating A MEDIA FOLDER Folder Corel MEDIA FOLDER can be used to organize files. In addition, files can be organized within the Corel MEDIA FOLDER folder by creating subfolders. Subfolders can be created using the same method used to create folders in Windows Explorer. To create a Corel MEDIA FOLDER folder: 1. Open Windows Explorer. 2. Click the drive or folder where Corel MEDIA FOLDER folder is to be located. 3. Click File, New, Corel MEDIA FOLDER. To create a subfolder: 1. Choose the Corel MEDIA FOLDER folder where the subfolder is to be added. 2. Click File, New, Corel MEDIA FOLDER. Note: the process can be reversed by following the above steps and selecting "Convert To Windows Folder" Adding And Removing Files Corel MEDIA FOLDER allows files to be added and removed using the same method used to add and remove files in Windows Explorer. Adding files to a folder: 1. Choose the file to be added. 2. Move or copy the file to a Corel MEDIA FOLDER folder. Removing files from a folder: 1. Choose the file to be removed. 2. Press DELETE. Viewing Files in a MEDIA FOLDER Folder In addition to the usual viewing formats of the Windows Explorer (Large Icons, Small Icons, List and Details), files can be viewed with Thumbnails. To view files using Thumbnails: 1. Open the Windows Explorer 2. Click on a MEDIA FOLDER 3. Click on View, Thumbnails Changing The Thumbnail Size To change the Thumbnail size: 1. Open the Windows Explorer 2. Click on a MEDIA FOLDER folder. 3. Click View, Thumbnail Size. 4. Select one of the default Thumbnail sizes or enter a customer width and height. Tip: The size can also be set by dragging the corner handles of the preview image in the Thumbnail size dialog. Note: the Maximum thumbnail size is 128 x 128 and the Minimum is 32 x 32. Printing Thumbnails 1. Open Windows Explorer. 2. Double-click on a MEDIA FOLDER folder. 3. Select the thumbnails to be printed. 4. Click, File, Print Thumbnails. Note: To adjust the thumbnail rows, click File, Print, Thumbnails and select the Format tab. Searching for Files within a Corel MEDIA FOLDER Click Start, Find, In Corel Media Folder or open Windows Explorer and click, Tools, Find in Corel Media Folder. The utility provides the ability to search by name and location, text or date. What Is The Corel MEDIA FOLDERS INDEXER 8? The Corel MEDIA FOLDER INDEXER helps with finding files using the Text Search method. The Indexer stores the keywords and notes in a file that is activated when performing a Text Search. This file can take up a lot of space. To have control over this file, choose a Corel MEDIA FOLDER folder, subfolder, or file and right click to select Index, Delete. The keywords and notes created for the selected item, will be deleted from the Indexer file. The Indexer can be set to run manually or automatically. To run the Indexer automatically, a preset can be set to update its keywords and notes file periodically. To update the indexer manually for a specific file or folder, right click the folder or file. Choose Index, Update to update the indexer on the newly added keywords and notes. The Text Search method cannot be used until the Indexer is run on keywords and notes. A MEDIA FOLDER folder can be converted to a Windows folder. However, all keywords and notes are deleted during this process. When converting the folder back to a MEDIA FOLDER folder, keywords and notes must be added again before running the Indexer. A shortcut for the Corel MEDIA FOLDERS INDEXER is placed in the Windows Startup group allowing it to be loaded every time the system boots up. It can be removed from the Startup group if desired and launched manually as needed. To remove the MEDIA FOLDERS INDEXER from the Windows Startup group: 1. Right-click on the Windows Start button. 2. Select Open. 3. Double-click the Programs folder. 4. Double-click the Startup folder. 5. Click once on the Corel MEDIA FOLDER INDEXER 8 shortcut to select it. 6. Click on File, Delete. The MEDIA INDEXER can now be launched as needed by clicking Start, Programs, CorelDRAW 8, Graphics Utilities, Corel MEDIA FOLDERS INDEXER 8. Converting Corel MOSAIC™ and Corel MULTIMEDIA MANAGER™ files The Corel MEDIA FOLDER 8.0 Conversion Wizard will convert Corel MOSAIC 5.0 Catalogue files (.clc), Corel MOSAIC 5.0 Library files (.clb), Corel MULTIMEDIA MANAGER 6.0 files (.gal) and Corel MULTIMEDIA MANAGER 7.0 files (.cmm) to a Corel MEDIA FOLDER.. To launch the Album Converter, click Start, Programs, CorelDRAW 8, Graphic Utilities, Album Converter. NOTE: Corel MOSAIC Catalogue files cannot be converted when using Windows NT 4.0. In the Programs folder, double-click on the CORELMF.HLP file.
