# 3104- Plotting from CorelDRAW 3 for UNIX It is not possible to plot directly from CorelDRAW 3 for UNIX to the plotter. The optimum method is to export the drawing to an HPGL format, and copy the file to the device. The Hewlett Packard Graphics Language (HPGL) is a standard to which most plotters conform to. To verify that the device is HPGL compliant, refer to the owner's manual or contact the Original Equipment Manufacturer. There are two main categories of plotters: bottom left origin and center origin. Before plotting, determine the plotting origin of the device. To verify the plotting origin refer to the owner's manual or contact the Original Equipment Manufacturer. Note the following when exporting to an HPGL format from CorelDRAW 3 for UNIX: The HPGL works with outlines only, therefore, fills are not supported and are ignored when the resulting PLT file is created. Images within the drawing that have a fill and no outline will have an outline appended to them in the HPGL export process. Bitmaps are not supported and will be ignored upon export. Features such as calligraphic outlines will be converted to solid lines. Bezier curves will be converted to line segments, and dotted or dashed lines are mapped to HPGL standard line types. Bottom Left Origin Plotters 1. Ensure the paper size and orientation selected within the Page Setup, matches the paper being used. 2. Confirm that the drawing has been saved in a .CDR format, this will preserve the drawing with both fill and outline information. 3. Click File, Export. Click HP Plotter HPGL, *.PLT; *.PLT from the List Files of Type list box, and click the appropriate directory. Type a descriptive filename, and click Export. 4. Copy the destination file to the device, using the standard UNIX lp or lpr commands. If you have any problems in transferring the plot file contact the local system administrator. Plotting From Center Origin Plotters 1. Ensure the paper size and orientation selected within the Page Setup, matches the paper being used. 2. Confirm that the drawing has been saved in a .CDR format, this will preserve the drawing with both fill and outline information. 3. From Page Setup, add a page frame. The page frame must have no fill or outline. The page frame will be used to maintain the sizing and orientation of the drawing. 4. Add both a horizontal and vertical guideline intersecting in the center of the page. 5. Click Edit, Select All, and click Arrange, Group. 6. Move the drawing or group of objects towards the center so that the upper right corner of the drawing is aligned with the center of the page. 7. Rotate the drawing or group of objects 90 degrees using the Rotate and Skew option from the Transform menu, ensure the Leave Original check box is disabled. 8. Click File, Export. Click HP Plotter HPGL, *.PLT; *.PLT from the List Files of Type list box, and click the appropriate directory. Type a descriptive filename, and click Export. 9. Copy the destination file to the device, using the standard UNIX lp or lpr commands. If you have any problems in transferring the plot file contact the local system administrator. Note: When plotting to the HP DesignJet 650C, ensure that the plotter setup is using 7586, HP-GL/2 mode.
