# 3803 - DRAW6 for the MAC - FAQs Note: "FIXED" indicates that Corel has identified and corrected these issues in the maintenance release of Corel 6.0 identified as 6.0.3. A new update is available from our ftp site located at; ftp.corel.com/pub/coreldrw mac/CorelDRAW Mac/ Other issues do not originate with your Corel software, and therefore workarounds are provided to overcome difficulties which may arise from normal use of this application . GENERAL 1) Why do I have to select a color profile for my hardware configuration when I install? Choosing the appropriate hardware will permit you to create a Color Profile when using the CorelDRAW Color Manager. If no color profile is required the you can press OK and continue, without selecting any items. Apple monitors & printers are not listed, as the profiles for this are shipped within the Macintosh operating system 2) Why do I sometimes get an error message "Temp Drive Or Output Drive May Be Full"? Typically this message can be the result of either a corrupted object in a file, or a corrupted Preference file. Correct this by doing the following; a) Delete the "Corel Preferences" folder, within the Preferences folder, of the System folder b) Re-copy the entire Corel Preferences folder from the Corel CD-ROM disk #1 into the Preferences folder on the Hard Drive. The folder path is (Corel\ Preferences\ Corel Preferences). 3) Why do I get an Error message, "The Color Manager will not work without ColorSynctm. If you want to use the ColorManager, please install ColorSynctm" when I launch CorelDRAW? In order to use the Color Manager, the ColorSync Extension must be in the Extensions folder at the time of start-up. If you do not have this extension loaded, then you will get that message. Install the Macintosh Color Sync Extension and Color Sync System Profile Control Panel Device from the Macintosh Operating System disks or CD ROM to correct this problem. 4) Why can I not launch CorelDRAW? No error message is generated but the splash screen appears and then closes down. There are two possible solutions for this situation: a) Try to increase the available memory for the application, (Select the applications icon and go under FILE / GET INFO. Adjust the Preferred memory setting to 20 MB for the application). b) There may be a problem with the Preferences file. Delete the "Corel Preferences" folder, within the Preferences folder on your hard drive, then copy the entire folder from the CD-ROM disk #1.(Corel / Preferences / Corel Preferences) 5) Why do I get an error message stating that CorelDRAW cannot find the Object Support Lib, after I launch the application? In order to run CorelDRAW, the Object Support Lib Extension must be in the Extensions folder at the time of start-up. If you do not have this extension loaded, then you will get that message. Install the Object Support Lib Extension from the Macintosh Operating System disks or CD ROM. 6) I can not find the Dream 3D tutorial files. Where are they? The required Tutorial files are not on the CD, they can be downloaded from the Corel FTP site on the Internet (ftp://ftp.corel.com/pub/coreldrw%20mac/CorelDREAM 3D Mac/).If you wish, on Compuserve simply type; GO CORELMAC and locate these files in the "DRAW FOR MAC LIBRARY". FIXED 7) I have a problem using some of the Dream 3D scene wizards. Why? Within Dream 3D, some of the scene wizards are not currently available. FIXED 8) Why does the error message, "Extension Objects could not be loaded" occur when I try to launch Dream3D? There is an Extension named MathLibMoto, (or LibMoto) that is freely distributed by Motorola. It is a shared Math Library used for calculations by some programs. Remove this Extension and put it into the folder of the application that requires it. This will eliminate the conflict. 9) Why do some of my solid fills appear textured, or have a jagged sawtooth pattern through them? The use of the Twin Turbo Extensions can cause video problems. This Extension ships with the IMS video card, and CPUs that have the IMS video card installed. To remedy the problem, disable the Twin Turbo Extension. This is done by removing the Extension or depressing the Caps Lock key on your keyboard while working in CorelDRAW. Printing 1) Why am I not able to print to my Hewlett Packard Series Ink Jet printer? There is a current issue with printing to the HP DeskWriter series printer. To work around this issue, install an HP printer driver released prior to version 8.0, or you may export your file from CorelDRAW and print it from another application. FIXED 2) Why am I unable to print separations from my non-postscript printer? Print separations from a non-postscript printer is not a supported feature within the CorelDRAW application. 3) Why do I get an incomplete or rotated output when I send my file to an image setter, with a custom page size? This is an issue with the LaserWriter driver. By either updating the PPD to a Level 2 version, or by using a square page size, you should be able to successfully print your file. 4) Why am I unable to print tiled pages to my non-postscript printer? "Print tiled pages" from a non-postscript printer is not a supported feature within the CorelDRAW application. FIXED 5) Why does my rotated bitmap appear as a gray box when I print it out? This is a known issue with CorelDRAW. To work around this, import the bitmap into your existing file, rotate the bitmap then save the file as a Corel CDR file. After re-opening the file, it will print without a problem. FIXED 6) Why does CorelDRAW version 6.0.1 update not respect page setup when printing a page size, other than 81/2 X 11, to Postscript printers?. This is a known issue with CorelDRAW. The following work around is currently available: Before printing your illustration, go to Document Layout, and change your paper orientation to Landscape. As a result, when you go to print, you will view a window which prompts you to adjust paper orientation. At this time you can adjust your page/printer settings, and CorelDRAW 6 for Power Macintosh will print accurately. FIXED Fonts 1) Why does CorelDRAW take an excessively long time to launch? The use of any font management applications that install fonts on-the-fly will cause the Corel font cache to be re-built each time the application is launched. Try disabling the font management application. 2) How can I avoid having the Panose Font Matching come up when I launch CorelDRAW? The Panose Font Matching system can be disabled through the Panose Font Matching button, in the Text Options window under the Text Menu. 3) Why does text after an apostrophe or quotation marks, print out looking bold? When printing to a LaserWriter printer, the text for extended characters (‘,^, | or ") are converted to curves in order for these special characters to be printed. This causes the text following these characters to remain as curves, and therefore print as vector objects. To work around this issue, leave a space where the special characters are to go, and use artistic text to create these characters. FIXED Filters 1) Why can I not Import EPS files from Adobe Illustrator? The image preview information, in the header of the file cannot be read by CorelDRAW. When saving an EPS file, save the file as version 3.0, with the Preview and Thumbnail options de-selected. 2) Why am I not able to edit my EPS files when I import them into CorelDRAW 6.0? If you import your EPS file using the Encapsulated Postscript filter, a Bitmap representation of the information in the EPS file is placed on the page. You will note that the status bar reports the object as a bitmap with an EPS file attached. If you use the Postscript Interpreted (PS) filter to import the image into CorelDRAW, the file will open in an editable vector format. 3) Why is the transparent portion of an 89a GIF file visible within CorelDRAW on the Macintosh? This is currently an issue with viewing the transparent portion of a GIF image, however the transparent background will not be visible in Web browsers. 4) Why do my PICT files created in CorelDRAW, not contain vector objects? Currently, the CorelDRAW PICT filter does not support vector information. It is recommended that you use the EPS file format instead. 5) Why am I unable to open TIFF bitmaps larger than 15 MB? There is currently a import file size limitation when importing Bitmap images. FIXED 6) Why can I not open or print an EPS that I have exported from either Corel Multi-Media Manager or OCRTrace? When you export from Multi-Media Manager or CorelTRACE as an EPS file, it does not carry a PS dictionary within the file. Therefore, when the destination application goes to generate the graphic it does not create its own PS code. To resolve this issue, perform the following; a) In MULTIMEDIA MANAGER , or CorelTRACE, create a CUSTOM folder. From within the Custom folder, create a PRINTING folder (if it does not already exist). b) Copy the CorelDRAW prolog60.PS into the PRINTING folder. This file can be found on CD #1 in the COREL / CorelDRAW / CUSTOM / PRINTING, folder. FIXED
