# 3804 - CorelDREAM 3D FAQs 1.) What does CorelDREAM 3D do? CorelDREAM 3D provides all the features necessary to create full-color 3D illustrations. Its Bezier-based modeler uses tools you are familiar with from your favorite 2D drawing program to create 3D objects. The program also has a Modeling Wizard to guide you through the steps of creating a 3D object. Once you've created an object, you can paint colors and textures on it with realistic properties like transparency and reflection. You can even apply real-world textures like wood grain or marble. To enhance realism and three-dimensional effects, various types of light sources can be added to your scene. Just by changing a few light source settings, a cafe scene can be changed from early morning, to midday, to evening. Because you are working in three dimensions, you can view your scene from any angle and at any degree of magnification simply by placing cameras at different positions in the 3D workspace. Rendering is the culmination of a CorelDREAM 3D project. Like taking a photograph, rendering, reduces the three-dimensional scene to a two-dimensional image. The rendered image is compatible with many popular Macintosh 2D graphics and page layout programs, so you will have no trouble combining renderings with other images or integrating them with text. 2.) What kind of objects or files can I import into CorelDREAM 3D? Both 2d and 3d shapes can be imported into Corel DREAM 3D, by following the steps as outlined below Importing 2D shapes: 2D shapes can only be imported into the free-form modeler. Within the free-form modeler, 2d shapes can be imported as a cross section, a sweep path, or as a scaling envelope. To import 2D shapes into a cross section: 1.) Activate the cross section on which you want to import the shape. 2.) From the File menu, click Import. 3.) From the List of Files Type box, select Illustrator 1.1 to 5.0. 4.) Locate and select the file containing the shapes you want to import. 5.) Click OK. To import a 2D shape for use as a Sweep Path 1.) Set the active plane to sweep path. 2.) From the File menu, click Import. 3.) From the List Files of Type box, select Illustrator 1.1 to 5.0. 4.) Locate and select the file containing the shape you want to import. 5.) Click OK. Note: If there is more than one shape in the file, only the first one will be imported. To import a 2D shape for use as a Scaling Envelope 1.) Set the active plane to sweep path. 2.) From the Geometry menu, select Extrusion Envelope and choose Symmetrical, Symmetrical in Plane, or free. 3.) From the File menu, click Import. 4.) From the List of Files Type box, select the file format you want to import. 5.) Locate and select the file containing the shape. 6.) Click OK. Note: If there is more than one shape in the file, only the first one will be imported. Files that are supported within the free-form modeler are Adobe Illustrator 1.1 to 5.0. Importing 3d shapes. 3D shapes can only be imported into the perspective window - since everything within the perspective window has 3 dimensions (length, width, and depth). Therefore you can only import objects with 3 dimensions. These file formats are DREAM4, DXF, and DREAM3. 1.) From the File menu, click Import. 2.) From the List of Files Type box, select the file format of the objects you want to import. 3.) Locate the file containing the objects you want to import. 4.) Click OK. 5.) If you are importing a DXF file, a dialog box appears so that you can specify how you want CorelDREAM 3D to interpret the file. Note: Occasionally when importing a DXF file you will see many objects in CorelDREAM 3D. If that happens, go back to the original program and select the appropriate options to save the data as 3DFace entities. 3.) How can I change the view between the cameras that I've created? In the menu bar under View, select Camera. Select the different cameras in this list to change the view between the cameras. 4.) I cannot find the CorelDREAM 3D tutorial files. Where are the tutorial files located? The required tutorial files are not on the CD. They can be downloaded from the Corel FTP site on the Internet. (ftp://ftp.corel.com/pub/coreldrw%20mac/CorelDREAM 3D Mac/). 5.) Why does the error message, "Extension objects could not be loaded" occur when I try to launch CorelDREAM 3D? An extension by the name MathLibMoto, (or the newer version LibMoto) is installed on your system. This extension is freely distributed by Motorola, and it is a shared math library used for calculations. Remove this extension from the Extensions folder and put it in the folder of the application that requires it. 6.) When I try to launch CorelDREAM 3D I get the following error message. "RDDEngineLib4" shared library is missing. Please make sure this file is in your Extensions folder, or contact Corel Technical Support." Copy the Dream6Engine extension from the Corel\Extensions folder on CD #1 to the closed System folder and restart. 7.) I have a problem using some of the CorelDREAM 3D Scene Wizards. This issue is fixed in revision 6.0.4. 8.) Why can't I see any reflections or shadows in my scene, even in better preview mode? Attributes such as shadows, reflections as well as other shader properties can only be seen in your rendered image. Ensure your objects are within the production frame, perform a preview render and you'll be able to see your objects attributes.
