# 3855- CorelDRAW 8™ for Power Macintosh® Color Management Overview This document outlines the steps required to configure the Color Manager using CorelDRAW™ 8 for Power Macintosh®. Since different monitors, scanners and printers handles color differently, a color profile may be required to produce an accurate color output. CorelDRAW 8 for Power Macintosh uses the International Color Consortium (ICC) standards together with the Kodak Digital Science™ Color Management System to create a color profile. For colors to be accurately translated from device to device, the differences between the color gamuts (the range of colors that can be produced) is taken into account in a color profile. Monitor Calibration ColorSync® 2.5 is a color management system that works with the Macintosh operating system. After installing ColorSync 2.5, open the Monitors & Sound control panel and click Calibrate to change the ColorSync Profile. Refer to the ColorSync ReadMe file located on CD#1 of CorelDRAW 8 for Power Macintosh for further information or follow the instructions on each screen. For systems with multiple monitors, Corel's color management system only recognizes one monitor profile, so use the primary monitor to check color accuracy. ColorSync Profiles are found in the System Folder under ColorSync Profiles. A ColorSync alias may be found in this folder that points to profiles found in System Folder:Preferences:ColorSync Profiles. This will occur if a previous version of ColorSync has been installed on your system. Correcting on-screen color for Display and Print 1. Choose Edit, Preferences. 2. Double-click Global and Color Management. 3. Enable the Calibrate colors for display check box. 4. To display colors as they will print, enable the Display simulated printer colors check box. Choose either Simulate composite or separations printer. Note: Enabling Calibrate colors for display may result in the screen images looking duller. Selecting a Color Profile To install additional device profiles, open the ColorSync Profiles folder found on CD#1 of CorelDRAW 8 for Power Macintosh. There are three folders: Display, Input, and Output. Open the appropriate folder and drag the device profile to the ColorSync Profiles Folder found in the System Folder. If your device profile is not found, contact the manufacturer of that device. 1. Choose Edit, Preferences. 2. Double-click Global and Color Management. 3. Choose Profiles. 4. Select a Monitor, Scanner, Composite Printer or Separations Printer. 5. Click OK. Scanner Profiles • Scanner profiles may be applied when choosing File, Import in CorelDRAW 8 or choosing File, Open in Corel PHOTO-PAINT™ 8 for Power Macintosh. Enable the Apply Selected Profile check box and then choose the appropriate device profile in the drop-down list. • If you cannot find your scanner profile in the list of available profiles, check the manufacturer's Web site or create one using a third-party profile creation tool. Many of the supplied printer color profiles were created using ColorBlind® Color management software.
