Corel Gallery 1.0 for the MAC FAQs - #2900 Installation Issues: GALLERY 1 1. Why isn't Gallery functioning properly on my Power PC? Gallery 1.0 was originally designed to run only on the 68xxx series processor, and is not designed to run on the Power Macintosh. Problems may arise when using Gallery 1.0 on the Power PC. Please follow the troubleshooting steps that deal with removal of Extensions. 2. Why can't I see my CD on the Desktop, but other CD's work fine? Go to the SYSTEM folder then to the EXTENSIONS FOLDER and ensure that you have the ISO 9660 Extension. If you are using a Toshiba or CD Technologies CD-ROM drive, make sure that you are using the latest Driver from Toshiba (V1.6.1) and enable ISO 9660 capability in the CONTROL PANEL item, within the SYSTEM FOLDER. This must be done to allow the system to read Dual format CD's. GALLERY 2 1. When I try to launch Gallery 2.0, I get a message saying the Microsoft OLE Extension could not be loaded, because it could not be found, please reinstall the application and restart your Macintosh. What does this mean? There are a couple of reasons for this error message. As stated in the Readme file located on the CD, if all available memory is taken up while running Corel GALLERY, a message that indicates OLE has not been installed may appear. To resolve this, you can either close other applications to free up memory, turn on Virtual memory, or reduce the amount of memory allocated to GALLERY, as this will enable the OLE to load. To change the amount of memory allocated to GALLERY, simply go to the Finder level, and choose Get Info from the File menu once the Corel GALLERY icon has been selected. Enter the desired amounts of memory at the bottom of the Get Info window. You may also see this error message appear, if you are running, Global Village Fax software, (Ver. 2.5.0, or older). It seems that there may be a conflict with the older version of GV's fax software and Microsoft OLE Extentions. 2. When I try to launch Gallery 2.0, I get a message "Unimplemented Trap" or Error Type xxx. What does this mean? This error is caused by a conflict between Gallery 2.0 and one of the other Extensions that is loading on the system. To confirm this, disable all extensions with the exception of the basic System Extensions, the CD Extensions and the Gallery 2.0 Extensions. Disabling System 7.0 extensions can be done by creating a new folder in the SYSTEM FOLDER called EXTENTIONS DISABLED. Drag all of the extensions, with the exception of the following to that new folder, then restart the Macintosh. Reinstall Gallery 2.0 and then launch the application. Basic System 7.0.x Extensions Apple Photo Access AppleShare AppleTalk ImageWriter Audio CD Access Caps Lock DAL EtherTalk Phase 2 File Sharing Extension Finder Help Foreign File Access High Sierra File Access ImageWriter ISO 9660 File Access LaserWriter LaserWriter 8 LQ AppleTalk ImageWriter LQ ImageWriter Minimal StuffIt Engine¬ Network Extension Personal LaserWriter SC Personal LW LS PrintMonitor StyleWriter Gallery 2.0 Extensions Microsoft OLE Extension (68K only) Microsoft OLE Library (PPC only) Microsoft OLE Automation (optional - PPC only for compatibility with other OLE applications) QuickTime(tm) 2.0 QuickTime(tm) PowerPlug (PPC only) Macintosh Drag & Drop Dragging Enabler DragLib (PPC only) Corel Filters For System 7.5, look under the APPLE MENU, to CONTROL PANEL and select EXTENSIONS MANAGER. Under SETS, select SYSTEM 7.5... then restart the Macintosh. Reinstall Gallery 2.0 and then launch the application. Once Gallery 2.0 has been successfully launched, you will then need to bring the extensions back from the folder, EXTENTIONS DISABLED, and place them into the SYSTEM FOLDER (under System 7.0, drag the extensions from the EXTENTIONS DISABLED folder, for System 7.5, look under the APPLE MENU, to CONTROL PANEL and select EXTENSIONS MANAGER and place a "check mark" beside the Extension that you want to turn on.). *It is recommended that you only bring in 3 extensions at one time, and from that point re-start the system, and try to launch Gallery 2.0. If Gallery 2.0 fails to launch, then remove one or two of the last extensions added into the SYSTEM FOLDER, and try again. Once it is determined, what extensions cause Gallery 2.0 not to launch, check with the appropriate software vendor to ensure that the most current version is on the system. General Issues: 1. What file format are the clipart images in? In Gallery 1 for the Macintosh, the files are in a PICT format, which is readable by most Macintosh applications. In Gallery 2 the clipart is in a CMX (Corel Presentation Exchange) format. 2. How do I get my clipart from Corel GALLERY 2.0 into another application? a. Export the image from Corel GALLERY 2.0 in a file format that is supported by the target application. Gallery 2.0 exports in the following formats: EPS with preview, EPS with no preview, Vector PICT, BMP, GIF, MacPaint, PCX, Photoshop 2.0, Photoshop 2.5, PICT, Targa, TIFF and WMF. or... b. Select the image while in Corel GALLERY 2.0, and choose Copy from the Edit menu. Then in the target application, select Paste from the Edit menu. 3. Why isn't it possible to edit the clipart images when they are brought into another application? The usability of the clipart images from Gallery 1.0 or 2.0 depends on: a. How the clipart image is placed into the destination application (ie: exporting or copy | paste) b. How the destination application handles files in a given format. If problems are experienced with the way the destination application handles the clipart images, it is recommended, that the manufacturer of that application be contacted. 4. Why are images from Gallery 1.0 that have been copied and pasted into a destination application up to 4 times the original size. Most of the MACINTOSH applications do not recognize that images are created at 300 DPI, and therefore assume that the images are created at 72 DPI. This forces the pasted images into the document at a larger size. 5. When double clicking on a clipart image, or a sound file, I receive an error message, "The application Corel Gallery 2.0 PPC could not be opened, because an Error of type -192 occurred". This error message will appear if the user double clicks on a file and tries to launch the application, and is running on a non-Power PC Macintosh. All of the Gallery 2.0 files have been associated to the Power PC version of Gallery 2.0. Printing Issues: 1. When I print the Gallery 1.0 clipart, from another application the images come out jagged. Most of the Macintosh applications do not recognize that the images are created at 300 DPI, because the images do not contain Postscript comments. The applications are then printing the images at 72DPI, as opposed to the resolution that the images were stored in, 300DPI. Note that the images print fine from Gallery. To resolve this problem, there are 2 possible solutions: A. Try printing to an EPS file, then import (place) the EPS file instead ( this works only if you have a Postscript printer) B. Open the necessary library in Gallery, select the image and then select PREVIEW and SHOW FULL SIZE. Now EDIT | SELECT ALL then EDIT | COPY. Finally, open the desired application and then EDIT | PASTE. 2. When printing the Gallery 2.0 clipart, to an HP color printer, the images come out black and white. There is a known issue with Gallery 2.0, and printing black and white on the HP color printers. To verify if this is the problem, select FILE and GET INFO on the Corel Gallery 2.0 application. Verify that the Created Date and Modified date is Thu, Jun 15, 1995. If this is not the case, please contact Corel Customer Service Department to obtain a replacement update CD. Font Issues: 1. How do I use the fonts that ship with Gallery 2.0? Do I have to use Master Juggler? Gallery 2.0 includes a total of 500 fonts. The easiest way to make use of these fonts is to open the fonts album and drag and drop the desired fonts to the SYSTEM FOLDER. They will then automatically be placed in the proper location. Under system 7.0.X, they are put into the system suitcase and under System 7.5.X the fonts go into a FONTS FOLDER. Doing this, makes the font(s) available to all Macintosh applications. The Master Juggler is a font management tool and you do not have to use this tool to work with the fonts that are provided with Gallery 2.0. Copyright © 1996 Corel Corporation.
