# 5204- Corel MOSAIC™ for Macintosh® Installing Corel MOSAIC™ Corel MOSAIC™ is a utility which enables users to create libraries or catalogs of the images that are stored on the hard drive or on the Corel® PHOTO CD-ROM. By creating these libraries, it will make it easier to file the images or even print out a page of thumbnail images. To set up Corel MOSAIC, perform the following steps: 1. Double-click the MOSAIC folder, and install Corel MOSAIC, by performing a drag copy of the Corel MOSAIC application to the hard drive. Drag copy the EXTENSIONS folder from the CD-ROM to the SYSTEM folder on the hard drive. Do not open the SYSTEM folder or the EXTENSIONS folder and place them in directly. 2. A dialog box will open indicating that the extensions need to be stored in the EXTENSIONS folder in order to be available to the Macintosh. Click OK, and restart the computer. 3. Insert the Corel PHOTO CD-ROM, and double-click the Corel MOSAIC icon. 4. Click File, New Library. This will create a new library to put specific images into. This will also give the option of saving the library file for future use. 5. Click File, Import. In the center of this dialog box, there should be an icon for the CD- ROM, Hard Drive, and possibly a floppy drive. Double-click the Corel CD-ROM icon, and double-click the COREL folder. 7. Double-click a file name. This will add the file to the list of images to be added to the library. 8. Add all of the images and click Done. The screen will clear, and the Status Bar will indicate that the system is updating the library. Once the Library has been updated the thumbnails will appear on the screen. 9. Print, export or save the library. Exporting images with Corel MOSAIC 1. To export an image from the Corel Professional PHOTO CD, start by opening a new library, opening an existing library, or clicking View Directory. 2. Once the thumbnails are on the screen, click a thumbnail, and click File, Export. The Export Preferences dialog box will open. 3. Change the PHOTO CD Options to a TIF or PICT format, and change the Pixel Resolution to the required level. Remember that the higher the resolution, the more time it will take to export. 4. Click Export. 5. Choose a destination folder in the Save As dialog box, and click Export. Points to remember when exporting The conversion process can take considerable time to complete if a larger file size is selected. Even on a fast machine, the 2048 x 3072 may take as much as 30 minute before it finishes writing the file to the hard drive. This file will be the largest and will be approximately 18 MB. As a result, it will require a considerable amount of hard drive space and RAM to complete the conversion successfully. If there is less that 12 MB of RAM on the computer performing this export, it may not be able to complete the conversion to the larger sizes. Image Resolution When exporting an image, regardless of the size the image, it will usually read as a 72 DPI image in an application such as Adobe® Photoshop®. This is because, the images are stored in high resolution on the CD-ROM, but the PHOTO CD format does not store the DPI value. When these files are opened they will display the default resolution (either 72 or 96 dpi). To resolve this, resample the image to the appropriate resolution, and ensure the Maintain File Size check box is enabled. The images will become the new size, without any loss of quality
