The next step is to eliminate any 16-bit drivers or other applications that may be causing a conflict with the installation process. This is accomplished by bypassing the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT file through a step-by step boot process. To preform a step-by-step boot click on Start | Shutdown | and select Restart Computer. When you see the prompt “Starting Windows 95" press the F8 key.

A menu should appear. Choose the option labeled “Step-by-Step” on the menu. Answer as follows when prompted.

Load Doublespace Drivers = Yes
Load System Registry = Yes
Generate BOOTLOG.TXT = No
Load CONFIG.SYS = NO
Load HIMEM.SYS = Yes
Load Doublebuffer = No
Load IFSHLP.SYS = Yes
Load SETVER.EXE = No
Load AUTOEXEC.BAT = NO
Load Graphic User Interface = Yes
Load Windows Drivers = Yes
