Corel Ventura 4.2 Import Filters - #4201 The following is a list of the file formats which Corel VENTURA 4.2 supports for import. If you do not see a particular file format listed, the source application may be able to save or export the file as one of the file formats below: Note: *.* stands for 'any filename with any extension'. Therefore, the asterisk (*) is a wildcard meaning 'any'. Thus, you can decipher that *.txt would mean 'any file with the extension txt'. Likewise, *.gem would mean 'any file with the extension gem'. This way of describing files and/or file extensions is very common within DOS and Windows, so it is good to understand its meaning. Please be aware that when importing a text file from a word processor, the basic content of the text file is translated into a form which Corel VENTURA can decipher. Included in the basic content would be the actual text plus character level formatting such as underline, boldface, font settings, and the like. Since Corel VENTURA will be used for the overall typesetting of the document, the format information of the original text file will be ignored when it is read into Corel VENTURA. Application specific commands and/or special effects applied to the original file which would otherwise be applied by Corel VENTURA will be ignored. As a result, a text file brought into Corel VENTURA will not look as it did in its source application, but the basic content of the file will be intact and prepared for final mark-up by Corel VENTURA. Note: Since the format information from the original word processor is eliminated as soon as the chapter is saved, you must save the text file under a different name before loading it into Corel VENTURA if you want to retain the original word processor formatting. For more information regarding the requirements and limitations of each filter please refer to Corel VENTURA's on-line help under Import Text and also under Text Translation. As these products were released after Corel Ventura Publisher 4.2, their filters were not available. No update providing these filters is available for Corel Ventura. In order to load files created in MS Word 6.0 or WordPerfect 6.0, you must save the document in a format supported by Corel Ventura such as, saving the file in ASCII format or in a lesser Word format (2.x) or WordPerfect format (5.x). Conflicts With MS Word For Windows 6.0 If MS Word for Windows 6.0 is running in the background when you start Corel Ventura Publisher 4.2 (or an older version of Ventura Publisher) you may receive the following message: "The text file specified in the chapter cannot be loaded or requires a loadable converter which could not be found or won't fit due to a /A switch." You may also notice that some import filters normally available under the File/Load Text/Picture option are now unavailable. To correct this, simply exit MS Word 6.0 and Ventura Publisher, restart Windows and load Ventura Publisher before re-loading MS Word. If Corel Ventura Publisher is launched before MS Word 6.0, all filters are available and the "/A switch" message should not appear. Copyright © 1996 Corel Corporation. Last Updated: 29 May, 1996
