VP Alert, Browse Mode Error Message - #4213 VP Alert Browse Mode Error Message When copying a chapter in Manage Publication (using the Copy All command), you may encounter the following error message upon re-opening the copied chapter if, while in Manage Publication, you were in Chapter Mode rather than Publication mode. "Browse Mode should be used for opening read-only chapters. If the chapter: E:\BROWSE\PUBCOPY3\BROWSE.CHP is not read-only, then it is currently being read/writter to by another user." Ensure that you're in Publication mode in Manage Publication when copying a chapter. It's not necessary for the chapter to actually belong to a publication. Switching Between Chapter & Publication Mode in Manage Publication To toggle between Chapter and Publication mode, simply deselect any and all of the chapters listed in the Publication List (the list of chapters for the current publication – see page 110 of the Training Guide for a description/illustration of the Multi-Chapter Operations dialog – shown on next page). If any chapters are selected in this list, you will be in Chapter mode, which will be obvious by the Mode: setting of 'Chapter' (below the Add Chapter and Remove Chapter buttons). Without any chapters highlighted, you'll notice that this will change to Mode: Publication. Only copy chapters when in this mode, to avoid the Browse Mode error message upon reopening the original chapter. [Image] Where this can be a bit confusing, is if your chapter doesn't yet belong to a publication and you simply intend to use the Manage Publication dialog to copy your chapter. Beware when you Add a chapter to the list, for you'll notice that when it first appears in the list, even though it's highlighted, the Mode: will be Publication. It's not, though! It's really in Chapter mode. In this case, simply click on the chapter in the list to deselect it (you'll notice the Mode: remains at Publication it is really Publication mode, now) and then go ahead and Copy the chapter. So when the Browse Mode message appears simply close down Corel VENTURA and restart it. Then open your chapter and make sure you follow the method described in this document when copying chapters.
