# 5513- Backup and Saving Issues Automatic Backup To automatically back up your files, you must enable the Make Backup on Save option. To do this click Tools, Preferences, General. This default option will create a backup file for all component files when you save an entire publication and will create a backup file when you save an individual graphic file or text files using the Rename File command. All backup files will be saved in the same directory in which you save the publication and component files. The first letter of the three letter extension will contain the dollar sign (.$HP, .$XT, .$TY etc.). Prompt to Save the Chapter You should enable this option if you would like the application to automatically ask you to save the chapter when you open, move between chapters, exit the program or perform document-wide operations such as generating indexes, tables of contents or renumbering. To access this option click Tools, Preferences, General, and enable the Prompt to Save option. Caution: When Prompt to Save Chapter is turned off, changes are not saved automatically when you click File, New or Open, or when you click View, Go to Chapter. Prompt to Save All Component Files A Verbose Save will prompt you to name the chapter, style sheet as well as the publication, instead of the publication only. Without this option enabled your style sheet and your chapter file will take on the same name as the saved publication file.
