# 5515- "Out of Memory" Errors If one or more of the following error messages are generated, you are experiencing memory or system resource related problems. "You're out of text memory! turn backups on, save your document, and quit the program as soon as possible" "There wasn't enough memory to load and hyphenate all of the text file you requested. You may have to split this chapter & file into two parts and try again" Resolving Memory Issues To clear memory after an error has occurred, close Corel VENTURA 5, and restart Windows. Once memory has been cleared, ensure that system resources are sufficient. To check resources, click Help, About Program Manager. If the resources are below 50%, try to increase them by closing unnecessary TSR programs. For detailed instructions on this topic, refer to Fax on Demand document #1001. After performing the steps, restart Corel VENTURA and reload the text or chapter. If the file loads correctly, ensure the system resources are kept at a sufficient level, particularly when working with large text files. If the message persists, perform the following steps: 1. In Corel VENTURA , click Tools, Preferences, Text. 2. By default, the Requested Paragraph and Text Memory is set to 144. This value, multiplied by 2K, is the amount of memory that Corel VENTURA will reserve for text handling when the application starts. 3. Increase this value in multiples of 16 until there is adequate memory for Corel VENTURA to use. 4. Close and launch Corel VENTURA. Note: Increasing the Requested Paragraph and Text memory will result in a trade-off. By increasing the performance of Corel VENTURA , the user will, in turn be decreasing the performance of Windows and/or other applications. It is recommended that the Paragraph and Text Memory only be increased in the event of an error message. Reset this value to 144 when finished working with large files. If, system resources are not adequate for allocating extra memory to Corel VENTURA, leave the Requested Paragraph and Text value at 144 and break the text file into smaller files.
