# 5518- Scaling, Cloning, and Printing Booklets Booklet Printing The Booklet option in Corel VENTURA 5 will allow you to print one chapter only. If you desire booklet printing for multiple chapters you must manually paste, photocopy and print the desired pages or if you do not have a duplex printer, you can use software such as Double Up which can assist in controlling the page imposition and perhaps even assist in duplexing. If these options are not available to you, attempt the following procedure. Note: To test the procedure a 12 page document was created. A large page number was placed in the center of each page for easy identification. The same procedure can be used in CorelDRAW 5. Procedures for Printing Booklets 1. From the \COREL50\CONFIG directory, open the CORELPRN.INI file. 2. Add the following line to the end of the [CONFIG] section: ExtentPad= -1500 3. Save, and exit the file. 4. Restart Corel VENTURA. 5. Open the publication that contains the booklet chapter, and click File, Print. Choose a print range, and type the following numbers: 12,1,10,3,8,5 6. Click Options, and enable Preview Image. 7. Change the Layout Style to Full Page. 8. Increase the Columns to 2, and leave the Rows at 1. 9. Reduce the Gutter Width to 0. 10. Turn on, and off the Fit to Page option. This will refresh the Preview. 11. Similarly, to print the Back-side pages, repeat steps 5 to 10, changing the numbers in step 5 to: 2,11,4,9,6,7 The Preview Image should now show the pages flowing in proper sequence, and the Size and Position values should be 100%. If they are not 100%, adjust the ExtentPad value in the CORELPRN.INI file to compensate. Keep in mind, this procedure is dependent on the printable area of the printer driver. This procedure was tested on a HPIV non-PostScript printer. The following diagram demonstrates how the pages will appear when printed with the above procedures. Notice that once the sheets are folded the pages flow in the proper sequence. Front Side of Pages Sheet # 1 Sheet #2 Sheet #3 Back Side of Pages Sheet #1 Sheet #2 Sheet #3 Cloning: If you wish to clone a page and maintain a specific sizing value such as 50%, perform the following steps: 1. From the \COREL50\CONFIG directory, open the CORELPRN.INI file. 2. Add the following line to the end of the [CONFIG] section: ExtentPad= -1500 3. Save, and exit the file. 4. Restart Corel VENTURA. 5. Open the publication, and click File, Print, Options. Choose 2 Columns, and reduce the Gutter Width to 0. Click Clone Frame. Scaling: When printing a multipage chapter or publication at a reduced scale (i.e. 50%) Corel VENTURA will set the scaling attribute for one page at a time. This makes printing a long document at a reduced size tedious work since you will have to assign the option for each page in the print dialog options. To achieve this effect, click File, Print, Options, Layout tab. Change the to 2 or 3 columns. This option only needs to be set once, and each subsequent page will flow the scaled pages into them. To refine this process, edit the CORELPRN.INI file to include the statement ExtentPad=-1500. This will push out the Corel applied printable margins to allow for more room on each page. ExtentPad Parameter: The ExtentPad option will increase or decrease the size of the printable area. The value is measured in 1000ths of an inch and the default is 100 (therefore is equal to 0.1 inch). For example the value of 2000 will add an additional inch to the non-printable margin(which will depend on the printer driver you are using). Likewise if you add the value -2000 there will be a decrease to the non-printable margin. The ExtentPad parameter will take place if you are printing tiled, scaled, or change the size of the print job through the print. If you do not alter the document (sizing, scaling, columns etc.) the EXTENTPAD option set in the CORELPRN.INI will be ignored and a default of 100 will be used.
