A: Appendix D in the CVP5 manual (page 357 in the CD/CVP version - page 449 in the stand alone version) explains Building and Editing Equations in Word Processors which can then be loaded into Corel VENTURA 5 within a text file. Please note the following corrections to the instructions in Appendix D: 1. You must place a $E directly following the first bracket of the equation. See example below: <$Ex sub y> The above statement will produce an equation of an 'x' followed by a subscript 'y'. 2. The syntax for assigning color to an equation is as follows: <$Ex><$Enothing sub y> The above statement will produce the same equation as the one in statement 1 but will apply a red colour to the 'y'. Please see the on-line help for further instructions on Color Codes. 2 Go To Page Dialog - View Button Q: The Go To Page dialog has a View Page Button. What does it do? A: This button will allow the user to keep the Go To Page dialog box on the screen even after they have gone to the page requested. That is, when you use the Go To Page dialog and (with the exception of using the VCR control buttons) tell it to go to page12 (as an example) the dialog box will disappear unless you first click on View Page. This button does not work as a toggle, so clicking on the button a second time with the intent of disabling the 'stay on top' option will have no effect. 3 CMYK Separations and Equations Q: When separating a chapter which contains black (RGB = 0,0,0) equations - from the Corel Equation Editor - to CMYK plates, how can I make the equations only print on the black plate? A: If disabling colour correction for printing is an option, then you can disable Printer Color Profile in the Print dialog, and then the equations will only print on the black plate - as they are converted from RGB to CMYK. If this is not an option, then creating the equations in a word processor may be your only other option to ensure that the equations only print on the black plate in a process separation. To create your equations in a word processor, see Appendix D in your manual, entitled - Building and Editing Equations in a Word Processor (page 357, that's page 449 in the CVP5 stand alone version). Also, as per the README.WRI file, make sure that when you create these equations, that you use the example format as shown below (which will create an equation of an 'x' followed by a subscript 'y'). <$Ex sub y> You must have the $E directly following the opening bracket. To ensure that you assign the proper colour to the equation, see the on-line help for the color codes to use. For instance, the following code will create a 100% process black (where the black ink will over print - for a knock-out, you would replace the 1 in the third position with a zero - this is explained in the on-line help) equation of an 'x' with a subscript 'y' following it: <$Ex sub y> 4 Inserted Equations Jump to Wrong Insertion Point Q: When an equation is to be inserted at a specific point in a paragraph, the equation jumps to another location once you exit from the Equation Editor. A: This is due to the Interline Spacing of the paragraph. If the Interline Spacing is to little, then the equation will jump to another location within the paragraph. The default spacing is 116%, however this problem has shown up when the spacing is at 109% (or there-abouts). So make sure that the Interline Spacing is at 116% and the equation should be placed where the cursor initially was situated. Since it is likely that the InterLine Spacing is at the size it is for a specific reason, you probably wouldn't want to globally change the InterLine Spacing just to accommodate the equations. In this case, you can do either of the following: 1. Temporarily adjust the InterLine Spacing of your paragraph to 116% before inserting the equation. Once the equation has been inserted, you can then reset the ILS back to the original setting, and the equations will remain in place. 2. If the equation is already in the document, and has shifted, simply cut and paste the frame anchor to the desired location. This is easily done within the Copy Editor. Swipe (highlight) the frame anchor, which may look similar to the following: <$&Z_ANCHOR1[-]> and then cut it to the clipboard, and paste it back to where you want it in the paragraph. 5 Printing a Multi-page Publication/Chapter in Reduced Scale Q: Printing a multi-page chapter/publication at a reduced scale, i.e.: 50%, CVP5 will set the scaling attribute for one page at a time. This makes printing a long document at a reduced size tedious work since you will have to assign the option for each page in the print dialog options. A: To achieve this effect, rather than selecting the scaling option, choose the Rows and Columns option at the bottom of the Print Dialog Option box. By doing so, i.e.: 2 rows and 1 column, the pages of the chapter will automatically flow, in their respective order, into the rows and columns and will display in the Preview Image box as they will print. This option only needs to be set once, and each subsequent page will flow the scaled down pages into them. To refine this process, edit the CORELPRN.INI file to include the statement ExtentPad=-1600. This will push out the Corel applied printable margins to allow for more room on each page, the result.... you will be able to set the print options to 2 Rows and 2 Columns with each of the 4 scaled pages @ 50% (using 8.5x11 paper size). 6 First & Last Match Option Not Working Q: With the tags roll-up open, go to chapter layout/headers-footers, and try to insert a "first match" or "lastmatch" tag. he button pushes down and nothing happens. A: When using the first or last tag match setting in a header or footer, the "Tags roll-up" should be closed before entering the Header/Footer dialog (Layout, Chapter Setting). If the roll-up is open before it will not be accessible from the menu and tag names will need to be entered manually. This information is in the README.WRI file for CVP5 F2 7 Panose Font Matching Message At Start-up Q: Each time Corel VENTURA 5 starts up a Panose Font Matching message appears stating that the TIMES font could not be found and will be substituted with another font. Why does this appear and how can I make it go away? A: The default font assigned to the DEFAULT.STY stylesheet, which is the stylesheet used to base the information of the UNTITLED.STY on, is Times (device font). While starting Corel VENTURA, should you receive a Panose Font Matching message indicating that the Times font could not be found, you may want to prevent this from occurring by following one of the methods below. The Times font is a standard device font found in PostScript printers. If you do not have a PostScript printer setup as default, Corel VENTURA will not find the Times font referred to in the DEFAULT.STY and as a result you will receive a Panose Font Matching message. If you have a PostScript printer, setup the PostScript printer driver as the default in the Windows Control Panel and then restart Corel VENTURA. If the message persists, check to see if only True Type fonts are being used in applications. Through the Windows Control Panel/Fonts/True Type... ensure that Show Only True Type Fonts in Applications is NOT selected. If it is, deselect it, then close the Control Panel and restart Corel VENTURA. This should ensure that the device font is found when Corel VENTURA starts. If you do not have a PostScript printer you may still encounter this message since the DEFAULT.STY is still looking for the device font Times. If this is the case, change the default font for the DEFAULT.STY by following these instructions: 1. Backup the DEFAULT.STY file found in the COREL50\VENTURA\TYPESET directory (assuming the default installation paths were chosen). 2. Open Corel VENTURA 5.0. 3. From the Layout menu load the DEFAULT.STY stylesheet. 4. With the DEFAULT.STY stylesheet loaded, edit each tag so they are assigned a different default font of your choice, perhaps Times New Roman (True Type font). 5. Save the DEFAULT.STY to keep the changes made. Now, whenever Corel VENTURA starts up the UNTITLED.STY will reflect the changes made. 8 'Too Many Files Open' Error Message Q: Launching Corel VENTURA 5 and receiving the error message 'Too Many Files Open'. A: If you are receiving the error message Too Many Files Open, or Initialization Failure while loading Corel VENTURA 5.0, it is possible that SHARE.EXE is loading in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and that VSHARE.386 has been disabled. Corel VENTURA 5.0 requires that VSHARE.386 be active for proper operation. If your setup requires that you do not use VSHARE.386 then adjust the SHARE.EXE line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file as follows: 1. Backup the AUTOEXEC.BAT file located in the root directory of your bootable drive. 2. In a text editor, open the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and look for a line similar to the one below: \DOS\SHARE.EXE (the directory location may be different) 3. If this line does not exist, add it with the appropriate path of the SHARE.EXE location and include the parameter below. If this line does exist, append the parameter shown below: C:\DOS\SHARE.EXE /L:500 /F:5100 4. Once the new setting has been added, save the file (ASCII format only) and exit the text editor. Your system will have to be rebooted for this parameter to take effect. Once you have restarted your system, launch Windows and Corel VENTURA 5.0. Should you continue to experience difficulties, call Corel Technical Support at 1-800-818-1848. 9 Printing Chapters With Differing Page Orientations Q: When printing a Publication which has Chapters of differing page layout orientation, i.e. Chapters 1-3 are portrait. . . Chapter 4 is landscape. . . Chapters 5 -7 are portrait. . . and so on, the printer does not change orientation from portrait to landscape and back again. As a result, the example listed above would print Chapter 4 in portrait, thus cropping the page to fit the orientation. A: Publications containing chapters with different page orientations may not print correctly if the orientation of the first chapter is the same as the orientation currently set up in the printer driver. To avoid this situation you may try either of the two methods below. Method 1 1. Close Corel VENTURA. 2. Backup the CORELPRN.INI file as this process will change its original contents. This file is located in the \COREL50\CONFIG directory assuming that the default installation settings were used. 3. With an ASCII text editor of your choice, i.e. Notepad, open the file CORELPRN.INI. Note: Make sure the text editor being used can save the file in ASCII format. Any extra code inserted in the file by the text editor can render it useless. For example, Windows Write will prompt you when opening the file to ‘...convert the file to Write format.’ or not. You should choose ‘No Conversion’, since converting to Write format will add extra code to the file. 4. In the [Config] section of the file, find the variable WarnBadOrientation=1 and change it to WarnBadOrientation=0. 5. Save the CORELPRN.INI file and restart Corel VENTURA. Note: Changing this switch will also disable the error message warning for other applications such as CorelDRAW and Corel PHOTOPAINT. Method 2 Prior to printing the publication go to the Print Setup Options to set the orientation in the printer driver to be opposite to that of the first chapter. When the Bad Orientation error message comes up, say "Yes" to automatically change the orientation of the driver to match that of the first chapter. These methods will force the printer driver to alternate page orientations as defined by each Chapter. 10 Ventura Won't Load Q: When I double-click on the Corel VENTURA 5 icon, the hour glass appears and there is hard disk activity, but Ventura fails to load and I remain at the Program Manager. What's wrong? A: Corel VENTURA 5 E2 is not compatible with OLE 2.02, and it is likely in this scenario that OLE 2.02 DLL's are present on your system. If this is the case, you can copy all of the files in the \REDIST directory (from the Corel 5 CD #1) to your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. This will overwrite your OLE 2.02 DLL's with those which CVP5 was built with. You may want to backup your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory before doing this, that way you can always revert back to OLE 2.02. There is a maintenance release available from Customer Service @ 1-800-772-6735. This maintenance release addresses the problem with OLE 2.02 compatibility. Upon installation, the maintenance release of CVP5 will install the newer OLE 2.02 DLL's back to your system.
