Headers and footers in Corel VENTURA™ 7 are used to place information that should appear on the top and bottom of many pages. Headers and footers make it easy to place titles and page/chapter/section numbers. They are managed easily if created in the master pages. There are two methods for creating headers and footers. To create a header or footer without using a preset format 1. Click View, Master Page. 2. Click any Master Page base frame. 3. Click Page, Enable Header or Page, Enable Footer. The height of the header or footer will be the same as the top or bottom margin of the base frame. The height can be changed by clicking the header frame, and clicking Format, Frame, General, and changing the Height in Format. 4. Enter the header and/or footer text. To insert text, type the text in the frame that appears at the top or bottom of the page. 5. To insert Page numbers, click the Insert Page Number button on the toolbar. 6. To insert Chapter numbers, click the Insert Chapter Number button on the toolbar. 7. To insert the current date and time, click the Insert Date and Time button on the toolbar. By using this technique for creating headers and footers, there are few limitations to the available formatting options. However, using the Page, Header/Footer Formats command means headers and footers can be created by taking advantage of preset formats. To create a header or footer using the preset formats 1. Click View, Master Page. 2. Click any Master Page base frame. 3. Click Page, Header/Footer Formats. 4. Click the Header or Footer Tab. 5. Click one of the preset formats. 6. Click Text, and define the text to use. 7. Click Apply. Changing individual pages When headers and footers are created in the master page they will appear in any page using that master page. It may be desirable to change the header and/or footer for an individual page. In Corel VENTURA 7 you can override headers and footers for an individual page or prevent the header or footer from appearing on a selected page. To override master page headers and footers on a selected page 1. Click View, Page Layout. 2. Click the frame of the header or footer you want to override. 3. Edit the text and formatting directly or click Page, Header/Footer Formats. Note: Changes made in Page Layout to the header or footer will be lost if the master page is reapplied. To restore the master page click Page, Apply Master Page. If you do not want the header or footer to appear on a certain page, click Page, and disable Show header or Show footer. Formatting Headers or footers Once a header or footer is created, many settings affect the look and location of text in the header or footer. To adjust the space above or below the header or footer 1. Click the header or footer frame. 2. Click Format, Frame. 3. Perform any of the following steps: - To change the space between the header or footer and the body of the document, adjust the top or bottom outside margins. - To change the space between the header or footer and the edge of the page, adjust the Top or Bottom Inside Margins. Click View, Master page, before making these adjustments, if you want them to apply to all pages that use that master page. The appearance of the text for the header or footer is controlled through the Paragraph tag. By default, the Paragraph tag name is Z_HEADER or Z_FOOTER. This is only the default tag name, and any tag name may be used. To change the tag settings for a header or footer 1. Click the header or footer text. 2. Click Format, Paragraph tag. The settings most often changed for header and footer tags are Fonts, Space, and Tabs. Tabs are very useful for arranging left, center, and right entries in the one tag. To copy or mirror the header or footer from one page to another click the Mirror or Copy icons on the Property bar. Refer to the online Help for a description of these icons. When screen resolution is set to 640 by 480, you will want to move or customize the Property bar. Running headers Running headers and footers are used to indicate that text is part of a topic or a section. The Current match option provides more control than the First and Last match options of the information placed in headers or footers. With Current match, you can create running headers and footers, which indicate clearly that a topic is continued from a section started on an earlier page. If the first paragraph on a page uses the tag specified in the Primary Tag list box, the text of that paragraph is printed as part of the header or footer. Otherwise, the text of the last occurrence of the Secondary tag is printed as part of the header of footer. To create running headers or footers (First, Last or Current Match) 1. Click View, Master Page. 2. Click the Master Page base frame. 3. Click Page, Enable Header, or Page, Enable Footer. 4. Click the header or footer frame. 5. For a First Match, click the First Match button on the toolbar, and click the first Paragraph tag that you want Corel VENTURA to look for on that page. 6. For a Last Match, click the Last Match button on the toolbar, then click the last Paragraph tag that you want Corel VENTURA to look for on that page. This will usually apply to footers. 7. For a Current Match, click the Current Match button on the toolbar, then click the Paragraph tag that you want Corel VENTURA a to look for. Note: Corel VENTURA will only search the first paragraph of the page.
