Imagine getting ready to print a 500-page document in Corel VENTURA™ 7. At the last minute, the inside margins are not wide enough to allow for binding and need to be changed under pressure of a deadline. Normally, the solution lies in opening each chapter to make the change, but Corel VENTURA 7 offers an alternative. The Master Page is a powerful new feature that can make these changes quickly and easily. Master pages contain page layout settings for the publication. Stored in a style sheet, a master page defines the settings that may be repeated on every page, such as page size, page orientation, margins, pictures, and headers and footers. You can specify page sizes and orientation by clicking Page, Master Page Properties. Margins, pictures, headers and footers can all be specified by clicking View, Master Page. Consider the automated power this page layout feature offers. It is simple to achieve a consistent layout with master pages. Best of all, if you change the page layout settings in the document's master page, those changes will be reflected throughout the publication. Multiple master pages for one publication are also an option. For example, apply one master page to the first 20 pages of the publication, another master page to the next 35, etc. This means, if the footers in the first master page are changed, the change will appear only in the first 20 pages. In addition, multiple master pages are ideal for creating a more complex page layout, such as adding different orientations to the document. With Corel VENTURA 7, a fold-out map that uses landscape page orientation can be added to a publication using portrait page orientation by adding another master page. Every master page has a right and left side. Each side can be used independently from the other. This way, page layout settings can be added to the right side of a master page without affecting the left side. For example, if you want to apply a logo only to the right pages of the document, add the repeating frame to the right side of the master page. With Corel VENTURA 7, designing page layout is a snap! Gone are the days when you had to create a new chapter to add different orientations or make a change to a single page. If you want to change a header or change the number of columns used in only one page of a publication, make the change in Page Layout View to override the master page settings. To return to the original master page settings, reapply the master page to the publication. With Corel VENTURA 7, you have more flexibility than ever before. Corel VENTURA 7 will even apply master pages for you. It isn't necessary to drag the master page to every page of the document. Instead, click Page, Apply Master Page to, and specify how you want a master page applied. With this kind of automated functionality, Corel VENTURA 7 master pages make designing a page layout a snap. So go ahead: drag and drop your favorite master pages between open publications in the VENTURA Navigator™, or store them in a VENTURA Library™ to share your master pages with others. Regardless of what you have in mind for your publication, the master page is just one of many powerful features that can make desktop publishing ideas a reality.
