# 5607- Issues Installing Corel VENTURA 7™ This article contains information about known issues when installing Corel VENTURA™ 7on a computer running Windows® 95 or Windows NT® 4.0. This document also includes a breakdown of which components are installed during a Typical, Compact, and Custom Setup, and the contents of CD-ROM #1, and 2. Note: Before proceeding, ensure that the most recent maintenance release has been installed. The latest release is Revision C, build 1465. To check the build installed, start Corel VENTURA, and click Help, About Corel VENTURA. If the revision is older than 7.1465, contact Customer Service. Minimum System Requirements: 486 DX2 16 MB RAM (32 Recommended) 640 x 480 (256 colors, VGA) video card (800 x 600 Recommended) 65 MB disk space Windows 95, Windows NT version 3.51 or higher What is installed in a Typical Setup: (157 MB disk space required) Corel CAPTURE™ 6 Corel VENTURA CONFIGURATION MANAGER™ Corel COLOR MANAGER SGML DTD to LGC Corel® Database Publisher 7 Corel MULTIMEDIA MANAGER™ *ATM 4.0 Lite Setup Program *Corel® CD Creator 2 Setup Program Corel SCRIPT Editor™ 7 *Corel® WEB.Site Builder Setup Program * In order to install these additional components, CD-ROM #1 must be inserted. The Calendar, Flyer, Newsletter, and Tutorial sample files are also installed. What is installed in a Compact Setup: (89 MB disk space required) *ATM 4.0 Lite Setup Program Corel VENTURA CONFIGURATION MANAGER™ Corel COLOR MANAGER SGML DTD to LGC Corel® Database Publisher 7 *Corel® CD Creator 2 Setup Program * In order to install these additional components, CD-ROM #1 must be inserted. The Tutorial sample files are also installed. What is installed in a Custom Setup: (up to 328 MB disk space required) When the custom setup is selected, all of the components are displayed. Disable the check boxes next to the components that are not required. Envoy 7 can only be installed with a Custom Setup. Note: Corel® WordPerfect® 7 can only be installed from CD-ROM #2. CD-ROM #1 contains: • All of the setup files • True Type and Type 1 fonts. • Symbols • Sample files and scripts CD-ROM #2 contains: • the Setup program for Corel WordPerfect 7 • Clipart • HTML sample files Installation Issues The computer stops responding when installing Corel VENTURA 7: This problem can be attributed to many things: 16-bit device drivers, another program running in the background, or even a faulty video driver. Refer to the Guidelines for a Clean Installation section of this document. ODBC Error Message near the end of installation: - This message usually appears if Microsoft® Office 97 is installed on the computer. Microsoft Office 97 uses different ODBC and DAO drivers that are not compatible with Corel® DataBase Publisher's drivers. If Microsoft Office 97 is installed, perform a Custom installation and do not install Corel DataBase Publisher 7. If you required Corel DataBase Publisher 7, uninstall Microsoft Office 97, install Corel DataBase Publisher 7, and reinstall Microsoft Office 97. Microsoft Exchange stops working after Setup: This is a known issue with Corel VENTURA™ 7.1314. The setup program overwrites the MAPI32.DLL file and causes Microsoft Exchange to stop working. In most cases, reinstalling Microsoft Exchange will resolve this issue. If after reinstalling, this issue still persists, try performing the following operation if you are running Windows 95: 1. Reboot the computer, press F8 when you see the typed message "Starting Windows 95..." 2. Click Command Prompt Only from the StartUp Menu, and press enter. 3. At the command prompt, type CD WINDOWS\SYSTEM. 4. Type REN MAPI32.DLL MAPI32.XXX, and press enter. 5. Reboot the computer. 6. Click Start, Programs, MS-DOS Prompt. 7. Type CD WINDOWS\SYSTEM. 8. Type the following command: Extract /A /E X:\WIN95\WIN95_02.CAB MAPI32.DLL Where X is the CD-ROM or disk drive letter. 9. Reboot the computer. If you are running Microsoft Windows NT® 4.0, perform the following operation: 1. Click Start, Programs, MS-DOS Prompt. 2. Type CD WINNT\SYSTEM32. 3. Type: REN MAPI32.DLL MAPI32.XXX 4. Type: EXPAND X:\I386\MAPI32.DL_ MAPI32.DLL Where X is the CD-ROM or disk drive letter. Registry Errors when installing under Windows NT 4.0: - This is due to a corrupted REGEDIT.EXE file. Check the size of the file in the WINDOWS folder. If the file size is 37 KB, it is corrupted. Copy the file from the I386 folder on the Windows NT4.0 CD-ROM into the WINDOWS folder on the hard drive. The proper file size should be 71 KB. Reinstall the Corel VENTURA 7. Guidelines for a Clean Installation If you are receiving errors or experiencing system instability during the installation of Corel VENTURA 7, perform the following steps to reduce potential conflicts during the installation. It is important to follow all suggestions before reinstalling. These instructions pertain to Windows 95 only. Note: Before proceeding, ensure that you have a recent Windows 95 Startup Diskette. If you require information for creating one, consult the Windows 95 user manual. 1. Rename the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files. These files can be found on the root of the C:\ drive. For more information on renaming files, consult the Windows 95 user manual. 2. Change the display adapter driver to a Standard VGA driver. To do this, • Click Start, Settings, Control Panel. • Double-click the Display icon, and click the Settings tab. • Click Change Display Type, and note the current Adapter Type driver. You will need to know this when you switch back to using your system's original video driver. Ensure that the proper drivers are on hand if required, and click Change. • Click Show All Devices. • From the list of Manufacturers, click Standard Display Types. • From the list of Models, click Standard Display Adapter (VGA). • Click OK, and click Close, Close. • When prompted to Restart the computer, click Yes. 3. Close down all programs and Terminate & Stay Resident (TSRs ) programs. To do this, • After your system has rebooted, press CTRL, ALT, DEL. This brings up the Close Program dialog box. • Select each program in the list one at a time, and click End Task . You will need to press CTRL, ALT, DELETE to bring the Close Program dialog box up after each program is closed. Note: Do not end task on Explorer. • After all TSRs have been closed, press CTRL, ALT, DELETE to verify that the only item in the list is Explorer. Click Cancel to close the Close Program dialog box. • After the reinstallation is complete, reverse steps 1 and 2 to return the computer to its original configuration. TSRs will automatically reload when the system is restarted.
