# 5609- Long File Name backups in Corel VENTURA™ 7 When saving files on networks that are limited to the 8.3 naming convention, a backup file cannot be made on save. This is because, when Corel VENTURA 7, build 7.1314, makes a backup on save, FILENAME.$VP is created. This conforms to the 8.3 naming convention used by MS-DOS and some networks. Later builds of Corel VENTURA 7 use BACKUP OF FILENAME.VP. This does not conform to the 8.3 naming convention. Certain networks will report an error when the backup file is being made. Note: This issue only occurs with versions 7.1443 and 7.1465. The latest release is Revision C, build 1465. To check the build installed, start Corel VENTURA™, and click Help, About Corel VENTURA. If the revision is older than 7.1465, contact Customer Service. To work around this issue, perform the following steps: 1. Close Corel VENTURA 7 or, if a file is open, click Tools, Options, Save, and disable the Make backup on Save check box. 2. Click Start, Programs, Windows Explorer. 3. In the directory that Corel VENTURA 7 was installed to, locate the VENTURA.INI file in the VENTURA folder. Double-click to open this file. 4. In the [Settings] section change OptionsSaveUseLFN=1 to OptionsSaveUseLFN=0. Note: When OptionsSaveUseLFN=0, FILENAME.$VP is used. When OptionsSaveUseLFN=1, Backup of FILENAME.VP is used. 5. Click File, Save. 6. Close the text editor. 7. Launch Corel VENTURA 7. 8. If Make backup on save was disabled in step 1, enable it now. 9. Note, if the Reset All button is clicked under Tools, Options, the setting in the VENTURA.INI file will be changed back to 1.
