# 5700- Corel VENTURA™ 8 Frequently Asked Questions General Q: Why does my Corel VENTURA™ 8 file get larger after I convert it from Corel VENTURA™ 7? A: If the Corel VENTURA 7 publication had pictures inside of it, Corel VENTURA 8 will generate a lower resolution rendition of the picture for faster display. This gets stored in the *.VP file, which makes it larger. Q: When I want to edit text from a Corel VENTURA 8 frame into WordPerfect®, I select the frame, right-click, but the only option I get is ‘Edit in Wordpad'. How do I change it to ‘Edit in WordPerfect'? A: This will depend on the program with which the RTF file format is associated. To change it to WordPerfect, simply locate any RTF file on your system; hold down the SHIFT key and right-click on the file. Select ‘Open with' then choose WordPerfect. You also want to select the ‘Always use this program to open this file type' check box. From that point on, Corel VENTURA 8 will display ‘Edit in WordPerfect'. Q: Once I have customized my Workspace in Corel VENTURA 8, which files must I backup if I need to reinstall the program? A: If you go into Windows Explorer, select the Corel\Graphics8\Workspace directory. From there, you might need to select the ‘Ventura8' directory. Under that, you will have a listing of all the ‘Workspaces' currently defined in Ventura. Simply backup the proper environment directory and matching ‘*.CW_' file and restore to the same location after the new installation. Q: Under the ‘Format' menu, what is the difference between ‘Paragraph Properties' and ‘Paragraph Tag Properties'? A: When you're in text mode working on a particular paragraph, any changes made to ‘Paragraph Properties' will be reflected in that paragraph only. Any changes made in ‘Paragraph Tag Properties' will be reflected to that paragraph tag throughout the whole publication. Note: If you make a change in ‘Paragraph Properties' and wish to update the paragraph tag as well, you can select the ‘Update Tag' button in the bottom left corner. Q: Why don't my markers show up in the Navigator window? A: Corel VENTURA 8 will only display the markers and/or cross-references once the ‘Refresh' button is selected. Q: Why do my Type 1 fonts have a green outline in Ventura? A: Open Adobe Type Manager and in the settings - advanced tab check "smooth font edges" and the green outline will be gone. Q: Why do my separations not appear on the plates in the Print Preview? A: The resolution by default is to set to low resolution. Choose Tools - Options and select Printing Defaults and change Print Preview Mode to Normal. Q: Why is my text disappearing from the page whenever a new text file is being loaded into my document? A: When importing a new text file, choose the option "Insert At Cursor" at the text will be added at the cursor position. Q: Why can't I delete blank pages that Ventura inserted into my publication. A: Ventura will add pages to a publication to accommodate text flow. If a blank page cannot be deleted, this usually means Ventura sees something on the page. To find out why Ventura is not deleting the page, go to Copy Editor and see if extra ‘returns' are there. Ventura sees this as text therefore, it prevents you from deleting the page. Installation Q: How do I install WordPerfect® 8? I can't find ‘setup.exe'. A: If you insert Disk #1, the Corel VENTURA 8 Autorun screen will appear. If you click on "Install WordPerfect 8 and Utilities, it will then ask you to insert Disk #3, and to select again. However, if you want to run the installation directly from Disk #3, the ‘Setup.exe' can be found at the following location: D:\Suite8\Appman\Setup\setup.exe assuming that ‘D' is your CD-ROM drive letter Q: When running the setup.exe file to install, why does the error "Cannot find setup.exe and or one of its components, ensure the path is correct and try again" appear? A: The install CD is contains long file names and Real Mode (DOS) CD Rom drivers cannot read long file names. The Real Mode drivers for the CD-ROM are being loaded from the Autoexec.bat and Config.sys files, and need to be disabled to allow the 32 bit Protected Mode driver to load in Windows. Q: Why am I getting a General Protection Fault with Setup32 and Kernel32 at the end of my installation? A: The setup program can have trouble registering the program if the operating system's registry is rather large. This problem only happens at the end of the setup. Running all the ‘.reg' files from the Graphics8 directory will register the Corel applications and allow them to run properly. This can be done using the find utility. Browse to the \Corel\Graphics directory (assuming default installation location). Search for *.reg. This will find roughly 17 *.reg files. Choose ‘Edit > Select All"; hit Enter, click OK on all the windows that will appear on your screen confirming registration of the program. Please note that you will have to create shortcuts for the programs. Please refer to your Windows Documentation for help on creating a shortcut. You can find all the *.exe files under the Corel\Graphics8\Programs directory.
