# 5701- Issues Installing Corel VENTURA™ 8 This article contains information about known issues when installing Corel VENTURA™ 8 on a computer running Windows® 95 or Windows NT® 4.0. This document also includes a breakdown of which components are included on CD-ROM'S #1, 2 and 3. Minimum System Requirements: Pentium Processor 16 MB RAM (32 Recommended) SVGA video card 80 MB disk space Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 What's in the box: • Corel VENTURA 8 • Corel PHOTO-PAINT™ 8 • Corel® Database Publisher 8 • Corel WordPerfect® 8 Typical Setup: (255 MB disk space required) Note: When you get to the "Ready to Install Corel Ventura 8" screen, you can click the ‘Show Selected Components' check box to display which components will be installed. The typical setup will install Corel VENTURA 8, Corel PHOTO-PAINT 8, and Corel Database Publisher 8 along with other accessories. Compact Setup: (74 MB disk space required) Note: When you get to the "Ready to Install Corel Ventura 8" screen, you can click the ‘Show Selected Components' check box to display which components will be installed. The Compact Setup will install Corel Ventura 8 with a minimum of accessories. Custom Setup: (up to 437 MB disk space required) Note: The Custom Setup lets you decide which components are to be installed. CD-ROM #1 contains: • Ventura 8 Setup and Help Files • DataBase Publisher 8 Setup and Help files • Photo-Paint Setup and Help files • True Type and Type 1 fonts • Symbols • Sample files and scripts CD-ROM #2 contains: • Clipart Images • Media Indexer Program CD-ROM #3 contains: • WordPerfect 8 Setup Files • SGML Utilities • Images, Photos, and Objects Installation Issues Installing WordPerfect 8: To install WordPerfect 8, put CD #1 and from the menu choose "Install WordPerfect 8, and Utilities" and it will prompt you for CD #3. Insert CD #3 and select ‘Install WordPerfect 8' to install the program. You can also run the setup by inserting CD #3, clicking Start, Run and typing in the following: D:\Suite8\Appman\Setup\Setup.exe assuming that your CD-ROM drive letter is ‘D' CorelDRAW™ 8 : Corel Ventura 8 should not be installed to the same directory as CorelDRAW 8 unless the version of Draw 8 is 8.232. If the revision is other than 8.232, Ventura 8 should be installed to a separate directory. Users can call customer service for the patch or it can be downloaded from our web site at www.corel.com. The name of the file is ‘DR8RevB.exe'. If Corel Ventura 8 is already installed in the same directory as Corel Draw 8, both programs will need to be uninstalled. The programs need to be reinstalled in the following order. Draw 8 should be installed first, followed by the Draw 8 Revision or patch, followed by Ventura 8. The computer stops responding when installing Corel VENTURA 8: This problem can be attributed to many things: 16-bit device drivers, another program running in the background (see Guidelines for a Clean Installation, #3), or even a faulty video driver. Refer to the Guidelines for a Clean Installation section of this document. Guidelines for a Clean Installation If you are receiving errors or experiencing system instability during the installation of Corel VENTURA 8, perform the following steps to reduce potential conflicts during the installation. It is important to follow all suggestions before reinstalling. These instructions pertain to Windows 95 only. Note: Before proceeding, ensure that you have a recent Windows 95 Startup Diskette. If you require information for creating one, consult the Windows 95 user manual. 1. Rename the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files. These files can be found on the root of the C:\ drive. For more information on renaming files, consult the Windows 95 user manual. 2. Change the display adapter driver to a Standard VGA driver. To do this, • Click Start, Settings, Control Panel. • Double-click the Display icon, and click the Settings tab. • Click Change Display Type, and note the current Adapter Type driver. You will need to know this when you switch back to using your system's original video driver. Ensure that the proper drivers are on hand if required, and click Change. • Click Show All Devices. • From the list of Manufacturers, click Standard Display Types. • From the list of Models, click Standard Display Adapter (VGA). • Click OK, and click Close, Close. • When prompted to Restart the computer, click Yes. 3. Close down all programs and Terminate & Stay Resident (TSRs ) programs. To do this, • After your system has rebooted, press CTRL, ALT, DEL. This brings up the Close Program dialog box. • Select each program in the list one at a time, and click End Task . You will need to press CTRL, ALT, DELETE to bring the Close Program dialog box up after each program is closed. Note: Do not end task on Explorer. • After all TSRs have been closed, press CTRL, ALT, DELETE to verify that the only item in the list is Explorer. Click Cancel to close the Close Program dialog box. • After the reinstallation is complete, reverse steps 1 and 2 to return the computer to its original configuration. TSRs will automatically reload when the system is restarted.
