Once this service pack has been applied to the managing AS/400 system with the LODPTF and APYPTF AS/400 commands, it can be installed on individual PC's with the "Install Service Pack" program icon in the Client Access Service folder. Check Service Level, controlled by the Client Access Properties Service tab, will detect that the Service source directory has been updated, and will present the user with the option to install the service pack at startup time as well. 2.2 INSTALLING FROM A LOCAL OR NETWORK DRIVE --------------------------------------------- The following method would be used if you have received the Client Access service pack as a set of install image files. Install the service pack by the running the "SETUP.EXE" program from your PC. This program is part of the install image files shipped with a service pack. Before running this program, copy the service pack install image files to a local drive on your PC or to any accessible network drive. Once the install setup program has completed, you can then remove the install image files from that drive. 2.3 INSTALLING FROM DISKETTE ----------------------------- The following method would be used if you have received the Client Access service pack as a set of install diskettes. Install the service pack by inserting diskette 1 into your diskette drive and running the "SETUP.EXE" program. Follow the setup program instructions, inserting additional diskettes as required. 2.4 INSTALL/UNINSTALL CONSIDERATIONS ------------------------------------- The following sections describe additional support and known problems that you may notice while using the Install/Uninstall function. 2.4.1 REMOVING THE SERVICE PACK -------------------------------- To remove this service pack from your PC: 1. Click the Windows 95 Start button, click on Settings, and then click on Control Panel. 2. Double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon. 3. Click on the Install/Uninstall tab, click on IBM AS/400 Client Access for Windows 95/NT SF59504 item, and then click on the Add/Remove button. 4. Follow the instructions on the screen. 2.4.2 UNABLE TO INSTALL FROM MANAGING AS/400 SYSTEM? ----------------------------------------------------- InstallShield is the tool used to provide the install support for Client Access for Windows 95/NT. The same tool is used for installing service packs. Setup.exe has a 2 minute timeout which could expire when installing service packs over slower communication lines. The suggested way of installing the service pack in this case is to take one of the options below: 1) A setting has been added to the Client Access Properties Service tab that will copy the service pack image to the PC's temporary directory, install the service pack, then remove the copied files. To use this new support you will need to specify this setting ("Copy install image to PC before installing"). POSSIBLE ERRORS: - A message is issued if there is not enough disk space to copy all the files. If you get this message you will need to free disk space on the hard drive specified in the message. - A message is issued if one of the files could not be successfully copied. If you select OK, check version will attempt to copy the remaining files and install the service pack. If you select Cancel, check version will stop copying files and delete any of the files it has already copied. STATUS: No status information is displayed while the files are copied. To determine if the transfers are progressing, look in the 'CA400CKV' temporary directory (For example C:\Windows\Temp\CA400CKV). You should see new files appear periodically. NOTES: "Copy install image to PC before installing" also works for upgrades to a new release, to avoid the time out over slower communication lines. 2) Find another Windows 95/NT PC with a faster connection to the AS/400 (such as token ring), and create a set of service pack install diskettes. Choose "Accessories" from the Client Access folder, then choose "Create Install Diskettes", then select the 'Service Pack' option. When this is completed, use these diskettes to install the service pack on your PC (by running SETUP.EXE from diskette 1). 3) Copy the \QCA400\WIN32\SERVICE\IMAGE directory from the AS/400 AS/400 to another server that can be accessed from your PC. You can then install directly from that server by mapping a drive and running SETUP.EXE, or change your Service source directory on the Client Access Properties Service tab to periodically automatically look for a new service level on this server. 3.0 DATA TRANSFER CONSIDERATIONS --------------------------------- The following sections describe additional support or known problems that you may notice while using the Data Transfer function. 3.1 TRANSFERRING DATA WHEN THE FILE OR DATA CCSID IS 65535 OR WHY DOES MY DATA LOOK LIKE GARBAGE WHEN I PERFORMED A DOWNLOAD? --------------------------------------------------------------- By default, the Data Transfer function will not translate data between EBCDIC and ASCII if the data is tagged with a CCSID of 65535. In previous versions of the Win 95/NT Client Access product, the 65535 conversion was controlled by the CWBTFR.INI file. This process has been changed, and the conversion is now controlled by the Data Transfer user interface. Once the setting has been made in the user interface, it is then stored in the transfer request. This is only true for .TTO and .TFR files. .RTO and .DT files are still controlled by the CWBTFR.INI file. The conversion setting for .RTO and .DT files can be modified in the Data Transfer user interface, but the setting will not be saved. The setting to control the conversion is found in the File, Properties information. WARNING: This fix is designed as a workaround for people that can not change the CCSID of their files. In order for this translation to work properly, you must be confident the data in the file matches the CCSID of your user profile. The design of the AS/400 is that data with a 65535 CCSID are not to be converted. This fix will attempt to do a conversion of the data from the job CCSID to the PC CCSID. This conversion may not work if the data in the file does not match the user profile/job CCSID. The correct solution to this problem is to appropriately tag the data with the correct CCSID. One way of doing this is by using CHGPF. For more information on the 65535 CCSID, see topic 2.2.3.2 in the AS/400 National Language Support book, SC41-1301-00. 4.0 AUTHORIZED PROGRAM ANALYSIS REPORT (APAR) ABSTRACTS -------------------------------------------------------- The following lists the APARs fixed at each of the service pack levels. Each service pack PTF is cumulative, that is, the most recent service pack PTF released contains all the fixes from prior service pack levels in addition to the APARs listed for a particular service pack. The fix abstracts are listed by installable component within a service pack level. --------------------------------- Service Pack Level = SF59504 Build date = August 1999 --------------------------------- Base Support ------------ APAR = SA83009 CA400WINOPT-NETPRINT PRINTER PROFILE PROBLEM ON WINDOWS 98 Problem can be re-created as follows: 1) Install Client access on Windows98. 2) Use the Client Access properties gui to create a new printer profile. 3) Create a Client Access Network printer. 4) Right click on the network printer and select the printer profile you just created. 5) Right click on the network printer and you will see that the selected printer profile has not been changed to the one you just chose. APAR = SA81787 CA400WINOPT-NETDRIVE-MSGERROR WHEN RECONNECTING DRIVE The following Windows Networking error is issued: 'The following error occurred when reconnecting X:\ to \\sys\dir Device not connected.' When one tries to access the drive, the message 'A permanent connection is not available' is displayed. This seems to occur only with some PCs running Windows 95 OSR1 (Windows 95 original version plus Service Pack 1) and with PTF SF55374 applied. APAR = SA83569 CA400WINOPT-APIS-OBJPRINT-INCORROUT PAGE WIDTH WRONG The cwbOBJ_GetObjAttr API returns the incorrect Page Width value in certain (predictable) cases. If the first digit is an 8 or 9 and it is in an even decimal place (it is the second, fourth, sixth or eight digit) then the output from this function call will be incorrect. For example, if the page width is 08 or 900 it will work correctly, if it is 80 or 9000 it will fail. APAR = SA79198 CA400WINOPT-PC5250 INCORROUT SEVERAL DBCS CHARACTERS RELATED 1)Several DBCS characters ( Special sign characters ) related to EBCDIC odes will be translated to 88FC,( the same 5550 code), in a printer session associated with IBM5577.PDT by using PCom packed in CA for WIN95. 2)IBM 5577-HC2 printers will interpret the pair of code, 88FC, by two processes; the first is to interpret 88 as a singal byte character, and the 2nd is to interpret FC as the 1st byte of the next pair related to a DBCS character, then theprint-out will get the wrong DBCS characters garbage codes. 3)IBM 5577-KC2 printers still interpret 88FC as a pair code related to a DBCS character. APAR = SA79783 CA400WINOPT-PRINTEMUL-INCORROUT PC5250 PRINTER SESSION NOT When using R313 or R320 of Client Access for Windows 95/98/NT, if you change the properties of a shortcut to a PC5250 printer session in order to have it run minimized, then use that shortcut to bring up the PC5250 printer session it will be started maximized instead of minimized. This can be reproduced using the following steps:1) create a new PC5250 printer session2) maximize the session3) save the session and create an icon (on the Desktop, Start Menu or elsewhere)4) find the shortcut icon that was created, right click on that icon and select "Properties" from the popup menu5) from the "Shortcut" tab, find the "Run" parameter, click on the down arrow and select "Minimized"6) Click on the OK button to close the shortcut's properties7) double click on the shortcut icon APAR = SA80483 CA400WINOPT-TERMEMUL-INCORROUT PC5250 3RD PARTY APPLICATION Using Client Access PC5250, certain screens in a 3rd party application (Island Pacific) display as blank when the user switches sessions. If the user has the PC5250 session minimized and is working elsewhere in Win95, and then clicks on the icon for PC5250 on the task bar, a blank screen with only a cursor is displayed. To get the data to display on the screen, the user must either press a function key to refresh the screen, or exit the screen and come back in. This problem occurs only when CA/400 PTFs are applied. The base code for CA/400 V3R1M3 and V3R2M0 work fine. APAR = SA80486 CA400WINOPT-TERMEMUL-INCORROUT PC5250 CANNOT SEE DATA WHEN User has oem application. When he is in screens where he needs to input data, he cannot see the data as it is being entered. If he refreshes the screen he can see the data that was entered in. APAR = SA81536 CA400WINOPT-TERMEMUL-INCORROUT DDE/EHLLAPI COPY LINK DOESN'T Unable to use DDE copy link function from PC5250 display session to MS word application. Using Copy link function from PC5250 display session to ms word application datas are copied once but never refreshed when PC5250 screen contents are changed. APAR = SA81733 CA400WINOPT-TERMEMUL-INCORROUT PC5250 BORDERS NOT DISPLAYED User's application displays a border. When he exits the screen with the border and returns to it, the border is missing. The RSTDSP parameter on the DDS file is set to *NO. With RSTDSP *YES, other problems occur where previous screens with borders are left on the display even though the user only wishes to see on menu (with a border). APAR = SA81937 CA400WINOPT-PC5250-INCORROUT CHARACTERS WERE DISPLAYED BY Since SF53300 for R320 or SF55374 for R313 were installed, all DBCS characters in popup keypad were displayed as garbage. It is the same problem as IC23126 for PC/5250. APAR = SA81951 CA400WINOPT-APIS-INCORROUT PCSHLL CA400WINOPT R313 AND R320 The hllapi WAIT function - Ñ4 - is returning a value of 0, implying the host is not input inhibited, when in actuality it is. This failure occurs in both the R313 and the R320 clients. This error will only occur if you set the session option for Wait and GetKey functions to NWAIT (the SetSessionParameters EHLLAPI function 9). If this value is set to TWAIT (the default) or LWAIT, you will get the correct return code of 5. The TWAIT will wait for up to a minute for XCLOCK or XSYSTEM states(LWAIT would wait forever), in this case both of those values cause the wait function to return immediately with the correct return code stating that your keyboard is locked. APAR = SA82305 CA400WINOPT PC5250 - PRINTER SESSION WITH PDT STOPPED DURING PCOM printer session stopped during printing spool data which made by APW. Same spool file can print on line printer. When stand-alone Japanese Pcom R420 is used,it works fine. Steps to recreate : Create following DSPF,first. A R RCD1 A FLD1 10W B 5 10 1.Install SF55374 and start Japanese pcom session. 2.STRSDA OPTION(3) 3.Specify the DSPF and the library and RCD1,then press ENTER key 4.Press ENTER again. You will receive a W-field(SBCS KANA) in the screen. FEP is not changed to KANA mode at this time. This is normal,I know. 5.On the field, press 'A' key once. It is input as SBCS English 'A'. 6.Then,press 'A' key again. It is input as SBCS English 'A'. FEP is changed to SBCS KANA at this time. 7.Then,press 'A' key again. It is input as SBCS KANA 'A'. When we used stand-alone Japanese Pcom R420(5639B950J) +IP21536(CSD2), FEP was changed to SBCS KANA mode on step 5. So 2nd 'A' was input as SBCS KANA 'A'. But,SF55374 was used,2nd 'A' was input as SBCS English 'A'. FEP should be changed automatically to SBCS KANA on step 5. APAR = SA82748 CA400WINOPT - REPEATED SYSTEM REQUESTS CAUSE CONSOLE TO HANG The following procedure has surfaced the problem on two different AS/400/comm console environments: 1) From the Comm console: DSPMSG QSYSOPR 2) Stack a number of pages to be displayed by hitting the 'page-up' key 10 times rapidly. 3) Try to interrupt the data flow by repeatedly selecting 'SYSREQ' , '2' and Enter. Typically, this is done rapidly since the data being refreshed to the screen will eliminate the sysreq. 4) The session will usually hang. Sometimes recovery can be a 'disconnect/reconnect'. Usually the session hangs solid, and can only be cleared by using the task manager or rebooting. The AS/400 will eventually see that the console is unavailable. It does seem to recover consistently, once the PC is stable again.
