5722XE1 V5R4M0 IBM iSeries Access for Windows Service Pack SI29771 This readme contains information on downloading the service pack files from the FTP directory structure. In the subcomps/ directory, we've broken the service pack into smaller components for more granular download. This will help people who have trouble downloading the 80.2 MB full service pack (SI29771.EXE). For information on combining the service pack with a tailored iSeries Access for Windows installation image, see the section at the end of this readme file. Installing from your hard drive ------------------------------- 1) Download the single large file (SI29771.EXE) *OR* each of the NINE subcomponent .exe files from the subcomps/ FTP directory to a directory on your PC or server. Note: SI29771.EXE contains all fixes. If you download this file from the main FTP directory, it is not necessary to download any of the others. The nine subcomponent files are: BASE.EXE (18.1 MB) DATAACC.EXE (3.1 MB) INAV1.EXE (17.7 MB) INAV2.EXE (3.3 MB) INAV3.EXE (16.7 MB) JTOOLBOX.EXE (7.8 MB) OPCON.EXE (1.3 MB) PC5250.EXE (5.7 MB) PRINTERS.EXE (8.5 MB) 2) Run the single large .exe *OR* each of the nine .exe's to expand the service pack image files. You can do this from a Command Prompt (after changing your current directory to your temporary directory), or from Windows Explorer. The default directory that you are prompted to expand the files to is C:\Program Files\iSeries Access for Windows V5R4 SP Image but you can change to expand to a different directory of your choice. If you use the nine subcomponent files, make sure you select to expand them all to the same directory. Note: after expansion, the service pack image consists of 90 files and is approximately 80.5 MB. 3) Now run SETUP.EXE from your selected directory to install the service pack. The service pack wizard panels will appear in English. Alternatively, the Install Service Pack shortcut in the iSeries Access for Windows Service folder on the desktop can be used to present the service pack wizard panels in the national language that iSeries Access for Windows is installed in on the PC. NOTE: If you used the SI29771.EXE download, the setup.exe service pack install will automatically launch after the file expansions complete. If you do not wish to install the service pack now, simply press Cancel on the first service pack install wizard panel - you can always run setup.exe some other time. 4) After the service pack is installed, you can delete the directory you selected to contain the expanded service pack image files (unless you intend for other users to install the service pack from this same directory). You can also delete the downloaded .exe file(s) from the FTP site. NOTE: If you used the SI29771.EXE download, the expanded files will be automatically deleted if you select the temporary location option on the Remove Installation Files wizard panel. For advanced users ------------------ It may not be necessary to download all of the subcomponent .exe's. If you see a .exe that doesn't contain a component of iSeries Access for Windows that you or your clients use, you can skip downloading that .exe. If you install the service pack and find that you omitted a subcomponent .exe you needed, you can install the service pack again after downloading that .exe. The content of each subcomponent .exe is listed below: BASE.EXE (this is a required file for all service pack installs) -------- Contains fixes for Express Required Programs, and the service pack install support files. DATAACC.EXE ----------- Contains fixes for Data Transfer, ODBC, OLE DB Provider, .Net Data Provider, and Programmer's Toolkit Headers/Libraries/Documentation components. INAV1.EXE --------- Contains fixes for iSeries Navigator Base Support. INAV2.EXE --------- Contains fixes for iSeries Navigator Database component. INAV3.EXE --------- Contains fixes for the remaining iSeries Navigator components. JTOOLBOX.EXE ------------ Contains fixes for the Toolbox for Java component. This component is required by iSeries Navigator. OPCON.EXE --------- Contains fixes for Operations Console and EZ-Setup components. PC5250.EXE ---------- Contains fixes for Standard Pc5250 Base Support component. PRINTERS.EXE ------------ Contains fixes for the AFP Printer Driver component. Combining the service pack with a tailored iSeries Access for Windows installation image ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The iSeries Access for Windows service pack PTFs are combined with the original iSeries Access for Windows installation image in QIBM\ProdData\Access\Windows\Install\Image NOTE: this directory is a symbolic link to QIBM\ProdData\CA400\Express\Install\Image There is one physical directory - either of these paths will access the directory. This means that a user can install (or upgrade) iSeries Access for Windows from this combined image directory and get the latest applied service level automatically in one integrated step - since the original installation image files have been replaced by updated versions via the service pack PTF. Selectively installing components from this combined image directory will also automatically get the latest applied service level for that component. If you tailor the iSeries Access for Windows install image to another directory (for instance, on another server), using the Create Tailored Installation Image (cwbinimg.bat) tool, you can use the PTFFORM.EXE download in the FTP directory to duplicate the function of applying the iSeries PTF by following these steps: 1. Download PTFFORM.EXE (from the tailored/ FTP directory) to a directory on your PC or server. 2. Run PTFFORM.EXE to automatically expand the service pack image files to a temporary directory. 3. You will then be prompted via a wizard panel to select the iSeries Access for Windows install image directory to update to the new service level. 4. The components that are contained in the target install image will be automatically updated to the new service level from the files in the temporary directory, and then the temporary directory will be removed. 5. After completion, you can delete the downloaded PTFFORM.exe file, as it is no longer needed. Now you have combined this service pack level with the iSeries Access for Windows installation image, so that users can install iSeries Access for Windows plus this service pack in one integrated step. Note that this procedure also works if the installation image has already been combined with a prior service pack level. This procedure will replace the prior service level in the combined image with this new level. Alternatively, if you have a full copy of the original iSeries Access for Windows install image in a directory, you can combine PTFFORM.EXE with this full image, using the same 5-step procedure detailed above. Then you can run Create Tailored Installation Image (cwbinimg.bat) from this full image directory, to create tailored image directories that will automatically have the service pack merged in.
