3.5 Configuration Requirement for Adobe Acrobat Reader on UNIX Based Systems

Acrobat Reader is only offered in English on UNIX based platforms, and errors may be returned when attempting to open PDF files with language locales other than English. These errors suggest font access or extraction problems with the PDF file, but are actually due to the fact that the English Acrobat Reader cannot function correctly within a UNIX non-English language locale.

To view such PDF files, switch to the English locale by performing one of the following steps before launching the English Acrobat Reader:

• Edit the Acrobat Reader's launch script, by adding the following line after the #!/bin/sh statement in the launch script file:

  LANG=C;export LANG
  

  This approach will ensure correct behavior when Acrobat Reader is launched by other applications, such as Netscape Navigator, or an application help menu.

• Enter LANG=C at the command prompt to set the Acrobat Reader's application environment to English.
