Migrating from Previous Versions of DB2 Connect

If you are migrating a DB2 product installation on a workstation that is running on a supported Linux distribution, you should be aware that DB2 Version 7 can only run with glibc version 2.1.2 or higher, as mentioned in Software Requirements. If your Linux distribution has a previous version of this library, you will not be able to use your DB2 product.

To prepare your workstation for installation, you have to upgrade your existing Linux distribution to a more recent level that includes the required (or later) version of the glibc library; you also have the option to update only the glibc library. We recommend that you update your distribution's installation to a more recent version that includes the required level for the glibc library. Updating only the glibc library may cause errors that can impact your operating system

If there are several instances using previous versions of a DB2 product, you do not need to migrate all of these instances at this time. Instances that are not migrated will continue to use the previous version of the DB2 product.

To prepare your instances for migration, you should ensure that you have done the following:

• Stopped any instances that you want to migrate by entering the db2stop command.
• Stopped the license daemon by entering the db2licd -xxx command.
• Stopped all DB2 back-end processes for any command line processes by entering the db2 terminate command in each window.
• Ensured that the db2profile script, located in INSTHOME/sqllib/ (where INSTHOME is the home directory of the instance owner) is of the proper shell syntax. For example:

     DB2INSTANCE=db2inst1	//BASH, Bourne, or Korn shell
     export DB2INSTANCE
   
  or
   
     set DB2INSTANCE=db2inst1	//C shell
