PDTs (Printer Definition Tables) are compiled from PDFs (Printer Definition 
Files). PDFs contain printer commands that must be understood/supported by
your printer.

The following are the basic printer languages:
--PCL (HP's Printer Control Language)
--PPDS (IBM's ProPrinter Data Stream)
--ESC/P (Epson's printer control language)
--POSTSCRIPT (we do not supply PDFs for this language)

Many printers support 2 or more of these languages. Most print drivers use 
PJL (Printer Job Language) to switch between languages and perform other
job control functions like number of copies.

You do not need a PDF for each different printer model, and with the 
increasing number of models, we will start shipping PDFs named for the
printer language not the printer model: ESC_P, HPPCL5, IBMPPDS. Currently
HPLJ4 should be used for all PCL printers, and will be renamed HPPCL5.
We will continue to ship the older PDFs & PDTs, and/or put them on our WEB
site.

The End_Job statement in a PDF contains the printer commands that are sent
to the printer at the end of each print job. If the End_Job contains a FFF
a FormFeed (FF) is sent to the printer. It is not needed if the host 
application ends the job with the FF which is commonly done. Some print 
drivers will add the FF if needed, and most print drivers will ignore extra 
FFs in the spool. So the FFF usually is protection against the host 
application not using a FF, and usually causes no problem. But if you get an 
extra blank page, remove the FFF.

All PDFs contain the FFF, except those marked with a * in the following list.

Most PDFs can be used for both 3270 and 5250 printing, those that must be used
for 3270 ONLY are marked with (3270).

All PDFs are on this Web site. Those marked WEB ONLY were NOT shipped with all 
versions of PCOMM. Only the most commonly used PDTS are put here. The others
can be easily compiled from any PCOMM session, as needed.
