Setting up the Electronic Journal service

To set up the Electronic Journal service:
  1. In the Electronic Journal database, create the tables used by the Electronic Journal service using the JDBCJournalSchemaGenerator. For information, see Using the Electronic Journal Schema Generator.
  2. For the pool manager in WebSphere(R) Application Server, identify the database used by the Electronic Journal service.
  3. Define the Electronic Journal service object in the service definition file. In this file, the service definition sets attributes such as autoCommit and identifies the schema name for the journal tables. See Electronic Journal external definitions for a list of attributes and what the attributes do. See Setting up multiple journal instances to use a single set of journal tables for any additional configuration that you may have to do.
  4. Define the Electronic Journal service requester in the resource bundle file. For more information on defining services, see Services.
  5. Define the formatters used by the Electronic Journal service in the formatter definition file.
  6. Package all of the resources used by the service (definition files and JAR files) and install them in WebSphere Application Server.

Once the Electronic Journal service is on WebSphere Application Server, applications can save, retrieve, and update records in the journal.
