Accessing a database table

The Database Table Mapping service uses a connection manager to handle the database connections. The connection manager looks up the data source and creates a connection according the service definition. If the application is based on J2EE 1.2, the datasource must be a 4.0 datasource in WebSphere(R) Application Server and the connection manager must be JDBCServicesConnMgrWS40 or JDBCServicesConnMgrWS40z (for z/OS(R)). If the application is based on J2EE 1.3 (Servlet 2.3), the datasource must be a 5.0 datasource in WebSphere Application Server and the connection manager must be JDBCServicesConnMgrWS50. The connection manager definition identifies the connection manager implementation. See Connection Manager external definitions for the definition and an example.

Because the service works with existing database tables, the application must set the primary key column for the records being inserted into the table, define this column as part of the format definition, and, if needed, define in the service definition the data mapping pair that maps the primary key column to the data field.
