1.0 About this release

IBM Rational Data Architect Version 6.1.0.1 contains enhancements and fixes to the version 6.1 release.

2.1 Hardware and software requirements

2.2 Installation Overview

This section describes how to install IBM(R) Rational(R) Data Architect Fix Pack 6.1.0.1 by using the IBM Rational Product Updater. This fix pack is provided as an update. You should download this fix pack directly from the IBM update server. However, you can also download a ZIP file that contains this fix pack for local installations. The following sections describe how to install this fix pack.

2.4 Installing the fix pack

Install the fix pack with the same user account that installed IBM Rational Data Architect.

Restrictions:

To install the fix pack, complete the following steps:

  1. Start the Rational Product Updater:
    • On Windows operating systems, click Start > Programs > IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.
    • On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 (GNOME desktop environment), open the main menu and click Programming > Rational Product Updater.
    • On SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0 (K Desktop Environment), open the main menu and click IBM Rational > Rational Product Updater.

    Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product shortcuts might not appear in the default location.

  2. Click Find Updates.

    If the Rational Product Updater requires an update, you are prompted to install it before you can continue. Click OK. The Rational Product Updater installs the update, restarts, and retrieves a list of available updates.

  3. By default, all available updates are selected. Ensure that you select IBM Rational Data Architect 6.1.0.1.

    Tip: To view the description for this update, click the update. The description is displayed in the Detailed information pane.

  4. Click Install Updates.
  5. To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.

    Depending on the speed of your computer processor, the amount of RAM, and the speed of your Internet connection, the update might take an extended period of time to download and install.

    After the installation is complete, the Rational Product Updater lists the installed updates on the Installed Products page.

  6. Close the Rational Product Updater.
  7. If you are planning to use the data model import and export feature, you must manually set the path to this feature in your environment variables. See the known issues for data model import and export in the New in this release section of this document for details.

2.5 Downloading the fix pack for local installations

You should install the fix pack directly from the IBM update server; however, it is also available for download. You might want to download and install the fix pack in the following situations:

To download and install the fix pack, complete the following steps:

  1. Download the fix pack from ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rationalsdp/rda/61/zips/rda_6101.zip.
  2. Extract the fix pack to a temporary directory, such as C:\temp.
  3. For installation instructions, navigate to C:\temp\rdafp1\ and open install_local_610.html.
