1.0 About this release

The latest version of this document is available at http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/rationalsdp/v7/im/1003/docs/readme/readme.html.

IBM® Installation Manager is a program that helps you install, update, modify, and uninstall packages on your workstation. This update contains fixes to the version 1.0 and version 1.0.0.2 releases of IBM Installation Manager. You can use Installation Manager to perform the following tasks:

1.1 New in this release

IBM Installation Manager Version, 1.0.0.3 offers support for systems running newly installed (not upgraded) versions of Microsoft® Windows® Vista.

2.0 Installation information

For information about installing IBM Installation Manager, refer to the installation guide for products that are part of the IBM Rational® Software Development Platform. You can download the most recent release notes, readmes, and product documents from http://www-306.ibm.com/software/rational/support/documentation.

Note: Linux® users must eliminate empty spaces from their installation paths for the IBM Installation Manager. The installation will fail on Linux if any empty spaces are included in the path for the IBM Installation Manager.

Note: On Windows Vista, IBM Installation Manager must be run with adminstrator privileges. From the Start menu, locate IBM Installation Manger, right-click the program shortcut and click Run as administrator.

Important note about upgrading from Windows XP to Windows Vista: If you plan to upgrade your Microsoft Windows XP operating system to Windows Vista and IBM Installation Manager is currently installed, refer to the instructions on the Support Web site, http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21257411.

3.0 Limitations

This section describes limitations specific to this release.

3.1 Launchpad: nonsupported browser error

The launchpad does not support Mozilla Firefox V1.6; the supported range is V1.7 or higher.

4.0 Known limitations, problems, and workarounds

This section describes known limitations and problems specific to this release and any workarounds that are available.
4.1 Privileges for Packages Running on Windows Vista
4.2 Team Products Not Currently Supported on Windows Vista
4.3 Error message during session finalization
4.4 Self-update from version 1.0.0.2 to 1.0.0.3 completes and exits abnormally

4.1 Privileges for Packages Running on Windows Vista

Check your packages' release notes to learn the required privileges. For example, Rational Software Modeler does not require administrative privileges while Rational Peformance Tester and Rational Functional Tester both must be "Run as administrator".

4.2 Team Products Not Currently Supported on Windows Vista

The Rational team products IBM Rational ClearCase® and IBM Rational ClearQuest® are not currently supported on the Windows Vista operating system.

4.3 Error message during session finalization

If two or more packages have been installed into the same package group and one of those package versions is 7.0.0.0  while the other package version is 7.0.0.1, the installation may complete with a message windows that states:

"Problem during session finalization, and Validation of Eclipse installation configuration failed because it has unsatisfied bundle constraints."

Workaround: You can resolve this problem by updating all of the packages in the package group to version 7.0.0.2.

4.4 Self-update from version 1.0.0.2 to 1.0.0.3 completes and exits abnormally

The IBM Installation Manager occasionally exits abnormally after it updates itself from version 1.0.0.2 (Rational products version 7.0.0.1) to version 1.0.0.3 (Rational products version 7.0.0.2). This failure is indicated by a pop-up dialog with the words: "Launcher: An error has occurred. See the log file ..." The Installation Manager was actually updated correctly and needs to be run again.
