Error recovery procedure after
downgrading from Release level AM720_xxx to AM710_086 or earlier
Systems affected:
Single drawer 9117-MMB and 9179-MHB systems
If System Firmware is downgraded from 720_064_064, or higher, to
710_086_043, or lower, the managing HMC will lose its connection with
the server and manual intervention will be required to complete the
installation.
Symptoms:
- Upgrade process will fail after approximately 45min with
reference code HSCF0189.
- HMC connection status will be "No Connection".
- HMC reference code, or command-line output from the "lssysconn"
command will be "Firmware not ready 0406-0001-00000001".
- Operator Panel display appears normal (no SRC/error etc).
Recovery steps:
While the system will reconnect
to the
HMC and be functional after completing step 2, steps 3 thru 8 must be
performed to complete installation of the desired firmware level.
1) Disconnect all AC power from
the managed server for 15
seconds.
2) Reconnect AC power. Wait for the server to reconnect to the HMC.
3) From the HMC GUI, select the check box to the left of the managed
server, then select "Tasks -> Updates -> Change Licensed Internal
Code for the current release".
4) Select the radio button next to "Select advanced features", then
select the "OK" button.
5) Select the radio button next to "Accept - Copy Temporary to
Permanent", then select the "OK" button.
6) Wait for the panel stating "Licensed Internal Code Readiness check
found no errors for the following targets:" to appear, then select the
"OK" button.
7) Wait for the "Confirm the Action" panel to appear, then select the
"OK" button.
8) The "Change Licensed Internal Code Progress" panel will now appear.
When the status field is updated with "Completed All Updates", select
the "OK" button, then select the "Cancel" button to back out of the
subsequent panels.
