Data Sharing Concepts and Terminology

Data sharing in a processor configuration refers to the ability of concurrent subsystems or applications to directly access and change the same data while maintaining data integrity and consistency throughout the processor configuration.

Throughout this chapter you will find the following terms used:

Term
Definition

 Data
Any type of information; not only data contained in a database.

 Application
Any subsystem, system product, or authorized application running on a TPF system in a multisystem environment or processor configuration. Typically, multiple instances of the application, distributed across the processor configuration, work together to perform a set of functions. For example, a database product could be installed on several systems in the processor configuration. On each system, an instance of the application accesses and manages the data that it shares with the other instances of the application.
