========================================================================== ADSM for AIX Server Readme File -- New Device Configuration Adstar Distributed Storage Manager (ADSM) Version 3, Release 1, Mod 2, Level 50 (C) Copyright 1996. IBM Corporation, All rights reserved. ========================================================================== This document includes updated information for the documentation provided with ADSM for AIX Version 3.1.2.50 Please refer to the readme files shipped with the GA version of ADSM for AIX for other important information. ========================================================================== APAR Fixes ========================================================================== ************************************************************************ * Latest Quantum DLT Drive Microcode is required for APAR IY03251 * ************************************************************************ Customers should request the latest Quantum DLT microcode level from their library vendors. For example, for STK customers, it is V95. For ATL customers, it is level 95. ************************************************************************ * IY03618 3.1.2.40 SERVER ABENDS WHEN ATTACHED TO A STK 9310 LIBRARY * * RUNNING ACSLS * ************************************************************************ Server may crash with TMTXN008 ABEND if there is an error updating the inventory list during ACSLSL initialization. ************************************************************************ * IC24458 ILLEGAL REQUEST DURING READ ELEMENT STATUS AFTER STK 9710 * * FIRMWARE UPGRADE * ************************************************************************ Additional data were returned from the Read Element Status command, causes incompatible storage allocation between the new firmware and the current ADSM device driver. The fix resolves the differences for 9710, 9714 and 9740 firmware upgrades. ************************************************************************ * IY03314 ELAINT IS RECOGNIZED AS EXB8505 AND THEREFORE CANNOT LABEL * * TAPES WITH THE LABEL LIBVOL COMMAND * ************************************************************************ The "Label Libvol" command fails with an I/O error when using Exabyte Eliant 820 drive. ========================================================================== New Device Support ========================================================================== For information on all devices supported by the ADSM server, please point your web browser to the following URL: http://www.tivoli.com/products/index/storage_mgt/adsm/adw0dev.htm Highlight: 1. These are used in conjunction with the previous ADSM Version 3 Administrator's and Reference guide and the ADSM Version 3 Installing the Server and Administrative Client. These diagrams can be added to their sections for recording the SCSI ID's and device names. Element addresses are used by ADSM to address the tape drive device and the storage slots contained by a SCSI Library/Autochanger. The ADSM command DEFINE DRIVE utilizes the element address of each drive in a multi-drive library. The ADSM command CHECKIN LIBVOL uses the address of a storage slot for libraries that do not have Entry/Exit ports. With the exception of DUAL LUN (Logical Unit Numbers) devices, you will need separate SCSI ID for your autochanger and a SCSI ID for each drive in your library device. Configure the autochanger and each drive in the library separately using the procedure described in the 'Configuring a Tape Drive, or Autochanger' section of the ADSM Administrator's Guide. NOTE: On some libraries, the element addresses of the cartridge slots will not directly correspond to the slot numbers (e.g. slot number 1 may be element address 2, etc.). This is important because ADSM will always reference cartridge slots by element addresses, not slot numbers. Note: ADSM Device Drivers only support SCSI II Hardware. ---- _______________________________ Figure 1 ________________________________ Default Element Addresses for AIT TreeFrog Library (Spectra Logic 2000) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Addresses Addresses of Addresses of Addresses of Model #s of Drives Storage slots Transport Entry/Exit Slots ----------- ---------- ------------- ------------ ---------------- 15 Cartridge 82,83 0 - 14 86 N/A 30 Cartridge 82,83 0 - 29 86 N/A 15 Cartridge 30 Cartridge _______ _______________ slot 1 |___0___| slot 1 |___0___|__15___| slot 16 . | . | | . | . | . ~ . ~ ~ . | . ~ . ~ . ~ ~ . | . ~ . ~ . ~ ~ . | . ~ . ~ . ~ ~ . | . ~ . |_______| |_______|_______| slot 15 |__14___| slot 15 |__14___|__29___| slot 30 | | | | drive 1 | 82 | drive 1 | 82 | |_______| |_______| | | | | drive 2 | 83 | drive 2 | 83 | |_______| |_______| Notes: ------ 1.
