To define a device class, first complete the following fields and then click Finish, or click Cancel to end this task.
Enter the name of the device class to be defined. This parameter is required. The maximum length of the device class name is 30 characters.
Select an option. This parameter is optional.
Drive | Specifies that Tivoli Storage Manager selects the highest format that can be supported by the drive on which a volume is mounted. The default is Drive. |
3480 | Specifies 3480 Basic recording format (18 track). |
3480XF | Specifies 3480 Compacted recording format (18 track). |
3490B | Specifies 3490 Basic recording format (36 track). |
3490C | Specifies 3490 Compacted recording format (36 track). |
Select the name of the defined library object that contains the Cartridge Tape drives used by this device class.
Enter the maximum number of volumes that can be simultaneously mounted for the device class.
The following are possible values:
Drives | Specify the number of drives defined and online in the library. The default is Drives. |
value | Specify the maximum number of drives used concurrently. This value can be any number from 0 to 256. This value must not be allowed to exceed the number of drives defined and online in the library. For external libraries, specify the number of drives for the library. |
0 | The value of zero prevents new transactions from gaining access to the storage pool. |
Enter a number, in minutes, for the maximum amount of time to retain an idle volume before dismounting it. This parameter is optional.
Enter the high level qualifier of the file name that the server writes into the sequential access media labels. This parameter is optional. For each sequential access volume assigned to this device class, Tivoli Storage Manager uses this parameter to create the data set name.
Enter the estimated capacity for the volumes categorized by this device class. This parameter is optional. You do not need to specify an estimated capacity unless the drives perfrom data compression, or you have volumes of nonstandard size. Specify a number followed by a scale factor. Scale factors and their meanings are:
K | Kilobyte |
M | Megabyte |
G | Gigabyte |
Enter a number for the maximum length of time, in minutes, to wait for a volume to be mounted in a manual library.
