Defining a Removable File Device Class

To define a device class, first complete the following fields and then click Finish, or click Cancel to end the task.

Device Class Name

Enter the name of the device class to be defined. The maximum length of the device class name is 30 characters.

Library Name

Select the library name that contains the removable media drives used by this device class.

Mount Limit

Enter the maximum number of volumes that can be simultaneously mounted for the device class. This value can be any number from 0 to 256.

Possible values for Mount Limit:

Drives Specifies that Tivoli Storage Manager determines the mount limit based on the number of drives defined and online in the library. The default is Drives
mount limitvalue Specifies the maximum number of drives used concurrently in this device class by Tivoli Storage Manager. For external libraries, specify the number of drives for the library as the parameter value. This value must never be allowed to exceed the number of drives that are defined and online in the library that services this device class.
0 The value of zero prevents new transactions from gaining access to the storage pool.

Mount Retention Period

Enter the amount of time, in minutes, to retain an idle volume before dismounting it.

Maximum Capacity

Enter the maximum size of any volumes (which are actually files) defined to a storage pool categorized by this device class. Specify an integer followed by a scale factor. The default maximum capacity is the space remaining on the media after it is first used.

Scale factors and their meanings are:

K Kilobyte
M Megabyte
G Gigabyte

Mount Wait Period

Enter the maximum length of time, in minutes, to wait for a volume to be mounted in a manual library.
