Updating a Drive
To update a drive, complete the following fields and then
click Finish, or click Cancel
to end this task.
Device
Enter the name of the device that corresponds to the drive.
This parameter is required.
- For 3480, 3490, and 3590 tape drives, specify
the name that has the form /dev/rmt/Xst (where X
is the number of the drive).
- For 4mm, 8mm, DLT,
and QIC
tape drives, specify the device name that has
the form dev/rmt/Xmt (where X is the
number of the drive). Do not enter a device name that has
the form /dev/rmt/Xst.
- For optical drives, specify the device name that
has the form dev/rmt/Xop (where X is
the number of the drive).
- If the device name is a Non-Tivoli Storage Manager device name (not
controlled by an Tivoli Storage Manager/IBM tape device
driver), perform the following as a precaution to see
if Tivoli Storage Manager can use this drive as a Generic Tape type
device.
- Insert a blank or unused tape into the drive.
Ensure the inserted tape is not write-protected.
- At a Solaris (not Tivoli Storage Manager) command prompt as user
root, issue the Solaris command: /usr/bin/dd
if=/usr/bindd of={Device Name} obs=80. Where
{Device Name} is the same as the same as the
"devicename" in the Tivoli Storage Manager "Define
Drive" command.
- If you get an I/O error from the "dd"
command, this means that Solaris is unable to use
the drive. Consequently, Tivoli Storage Manager is unlikely to be
able to use the drive as well.
- Eject the tape.
Element
Enter the element address of the drive.
- The element address is a number that indicates the
physical location of a drive within an automated library.
Tivoli Storage Manager needs this address to connect the physical
location of the drive to the drive's SCSI
address.
- This parameter is required for drives in SCSI libraries
that support more than one drive; it is optional for SCSI
libraries that support only one drive.
- This parameter is valid only for drives in SCSI
libraries.
Device Online
Select an option.
Yes |
Specifies that a particular drive will
be online. The default is Yes. |
No |
Specifies that a particular drive will
not be online. |
Cleaning Frequency
Enter the value for the cleaning frequency you would like to
establish for the selected drive. The default is None.
The following are possible values:
None |
Specifies that Tivoli Storage Manager does not track the
need for device cleaning. Some libraries have their own
automatic cleaning. |
Asneeded |
Specifies drive cleaning will take
place, with a checked in cleaner cartridge, when a drive
indicates cleaning is required. |
Gigabytes |
Specify a value in gigabytes, from 1 to 9999. This indicates how much data processing will occur before drive cleaning takes place. Drive cleaning will be done with a checked in cleaner cartridge. Drive cleaning will still take place when a drive indicates that cleaning is required. |
